Famous Austrian Dancers

Tilly Losch was an Austrian actress, dancer, choreographer, and painter. She achieved popularity in England before making her Hollywood debut. Losch went on to appear in films like The Garden of Allah, Duel in the Sun, and The Good Earth. However, she later chose to focus more on her career as a dancer and choreographer and acted only on Broadway.

Painter, printmaker, singer-songwriter, dancer, poet, academic teacher, architect and stage designer Arik Brauer was reputed as a Universalkünstler (all-round artist) in Austria. He featured as a singer-songwriter at the start of Austropop, co-founded the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism and taught at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. His art was exhibited at many galleries and museums across the globe.  

Fanny Elssler was an Austrian ballet dancer of the Romantic Period. Renowned for her beauty and dancing skills, Elssler captivated hearts wherever she performed. Her life and career inspired an eponymous silent film in 1920, where she was played by Lya Mara. Fanny Elssler was also portrayed by Lilian Harvey in the 1937 eponymous film.

Israeli mime and performing arts professor Samy Molcho began his career as a modern dancer. He later turned into a body language and communication expert and released several books on the subject. He has directed and choreographed countless performances and created the first mimo-vision for Austrian TV.

Susi Nicoletti was a Bavarian-born actress best known for her contribution to Austrian and West German comedy films of her time. Over the course of her career, Nicoletti acted in over 100 supporting roles. After retiring as a performer, Nicoletti taught dance and acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar. In 2000, she was awarded the Platinum Romy for lifetime achievement.

Susi Lanner was an Austrian actress best remembered for playing important roles in German productions between 1932 and 1937. After starting her career as a dancer and singer in revues and operettas, Susi Lanner went on to establish herself as an actress. Some of her best known movies include Love Conquers All, The Daring Swimmer, and Game on Board.
