Jason Mesnick is an American reality TV star and real-estate agent, who became popular after his stint in the 13th season of the show The Bachelor in 2009. Jason initially graduated in psychology from the University of Washington and then became a real-estate agent. When he participated in the reality series, Jason was a single father from Cleveland. Prior to The Bachelor, he was part of the fourth season of The Bachelorette in 2008 and was rejected by DeAnna Pappas, as the runner-up, on the show. On The Bachelor, Jason had initially proposed to Melissa Rycroft. However, he changed his mind at the last minute and proposed to the runner-up, Molly Malaney, in the end. Jason and Molly ended up getting married in 2010. They have a daughter, Riley Anne. The family now lives in Kirkland, Washington. Jason also has a son, Ty, from his previous marriage. Jason now works as a consultant for NWG Real Estate. Jason and Molly later appeared on shows such as Wife Swap. Netflix added the 13th season of The Bachelor to their collection in January 2020.

Childhood & Early Life

Jason Scott Mesnick was born on July 5, 1976, in Cleveland, Ohio, U.S. He grew up with two brothers, Sean and Larry. When Jason was 8, the family moved to Washington state.

Jason’s parents divorced when he was a teenager. Jason initially studied at the Lake Washington High School, located in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland, Washington, and graduated in 1994.

Jason then joined the University of Washington, from where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1998. He was a member of the Alpha Rho Chapter of the Theta Chi Fraternity.

After completing his education, Jason started his career as a real-estate agent. He now stays in Kirkland and woks as a consultant for NWG Real Estate. He has expertise in residential/family real estate.

TV Career: The Bachelor

The fourth season of the popular reality show The Bachelorette, which started airing in May 2008, featured Jason Mesnick as a contestant. Jason was a single father back then.

He was one of the suitors of DeAnna Pappas on the show and had proposed to her during the final rose ceremony. DeAnna rejected Jason and accepted Jesse Csincsak’s proposal instead.

Following this, Jason Mesnick appeared as the lead in the 13th season of The Bachelor on ABC. The show premiered in January 2009.

On the show, Jason initially proposed to Melissa Rycroft, a 25-year-old woman from Dallas who had been a cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys. Jason and Melissa ended up getting engaged on The Bachelor.

However, in the season finale episode of the show in March that year, Jason declared that he had changed his mind. He broke up with Melissa, and she ended up returning the engagement ring to Jason. Jason then proposed to Molly Malaney, the runner-up, and she accepted him.

Jason appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! the day after the final episode of The Bachelor, After the Final Rose, was broadcast. He said he did not wish to lead Melissa on after feeling they did not share enough “chemistry” with each other.

Melissa got married to Tye Strickland in 2009 and now has three kids with him.

Personal Life

In October 2009, Jason Mesnick went for a vacation with Molly to New Zealand. While on the vacation, he proposed marriage to Molly, and she accepted his proposal.

The couple tied the knot on February 27, 2010, in Rancho Palos Verdes, a suburb of Los Angeles, California, amid a heavy shower.

On March 8, 2010, their wedding was showcased in a 2-hour-long TV special titled The Bachelor: Jason and Molly's Wedding.

On October 12, 2012, they announced that Molly was pregnant with their first child together. On March 14, 2013, Molly gave birth to their daughter, Riley Anne. Jason and his family now live in Kirkland, Washington. Molly works for the radio station KISS 106.

Jason had earlier been married to Hilary Buckholz (his first wife). The couple had married in 2003. In 2005, they had a son, Ty. However, they divorced in 2007. Jason retained Ty’s custody.

Later Career on TV: After The Bachelor

In July 2015, Jason and Molly made a “comeback” to TV when they appeared in an episode of Wife Swap. The program required them to switch lives with the Bachelor Nation couple Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici.

Later, ABC asked Jason and Molly to offer their expert advice when Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season of The Bachelor had an ending similar to theirs.

In August 2020, ABC included Jason and Molly’s The Bachelor moments in The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons Ever. Following this, Molly wrote a tribute to Melissa on Instagram.
