Xochitl Gomez is a Canadian-born American actor, best known for her performance as Dawn Schafer in the 2020 Netflix series The Baby-Sitters Club. She had started acting in musical theater when she was 5 and began her full-fledged acting career with the 2016 movie Interwoven. She is interested in socially relevant causes. She identifies with the social outspokenness of the character Dawn but believes Dawn is bolder compared to her. Xochitl receives a lot of admiration from the Hispanic community, as Dawn is a Latina in the series, in contrast to the blonde character in the original book series the Netflix show is based on.

Career as an Actor

Xochitl Gomez had begun acting at the tender age of 5. She joined musical theater so that she could be involved in a productive activity, as her mother would mostly be away at work.

Her debut production was The Little Mermaid, and she played one of Ariel’s sisters. She has been part of nearly 20 musical productions. One of her initial roles was that of a horse in the musical Beauty and the Beast. She had to make weird horse noises throughout the play.

She began her full-fledged acting career with the 2016 movie Interwoven. In 2017, she appeared as Frida in the short G.I. Jose, as Young Adriana in the series Evil Things, as Zoe in the short Light as a Feather, and as Becky in the short Jack.

The following year, she was seen as Lily in the series Matty Paz Is a Noob, as Delia in the short By River's Edge, as Teresa in the short The Wetback, as Violet in the short Cazadora, as a kid in the short Silence of Others, as Lainey in the short Mia, as Francis in the short Boob Sweat, and as Marcela in the short The Letter.

In 2019, she appeared in the series You're the Worst, the film Shadow Wolves (as Chucky), as Young Ana in the Netflix series Gente-fied, and as Emma in the movie Roped. She has also been seen in two episodes of the Disney Channel show Raven's Home.

However, the role that made her a household name was that of Dawn Schafer in the 2020 Netflix series The Baby-Sitters Club. The series is based on a children’s novel series of the same name by author Ann M. Martin, which was published between 1986 and 2000.

The Baby-Sitters Club was released on July 3, 2020. It revolves around the lives of five middle-school children who establish their babysitting business in Stoneybrook, Connecticut.

Xochitl Gomez once described her character in the series as a “laid back, vegan, hippy activist” who is “passionate and empathetic.” The series also stars Sophie Grace as Kristy Thomas.

She feels she has a lot in common with Dawn. Though Xochitl feels she is not as political or as bold as Dawn, she, too, is interested in issues related to social justice, just like Dawn. Both she and Dawn are healthy eaters and avoid sugar. They are also both from California.
