Tommy Dorfman is an American actor, who is mostly known for playing the role of Ryan Shaver in the teen drama web series 13 Reasons Why. This series which aired on Netflix, has four seasons, and has gained significant popularity over the years. It has also earned a nomination for the prestigious Golden Globe Award. Tommy played the role of Ryan Shaver, a recurring role in the first and second season, and a guest role in the fourth season. He has appeared in other shows as well, such as the American comedy-drama series American Princess, where he played a recurring character named Nick.

Career

Tommy Dorfman began his career in the 2009 short film Foreign Exchange. In 2013, he appeared in another short film In My Skin. In 2016, he made his television debut playing a guest role in the TV series i-Witness.

Dorfman gained popularity in 2017, after he played a recurring role in the teen drama web series 13 Reasons Why. Based on a 2007 novel of the same name, the series revolved around Clay Jensen and the aftermath of the suicide of another student named Hannah Baker. The series explores as well as depicts a wide range of social issues that affect modern youths, such as suicide, sexual assault, bullying, racism, jock culture, mental health, alcoholism, etc. The series aired for four seasons, with the last season airing in June 2020. Dorfman played the role of Ryan Shaver, a student who had betrayedHannah’s trust. He appeared in the first and second seasons, in recurring roles, and in the final season, in a guest role.

In 2019, Tommy Dorfman had a role in the romantic comedy-drama series Jane the Virgin. The series revolved around a 23-year old virgin girl named Jane, who becomes pregnant after an accidental artificial insemination by her gynecologist. The series had aired for five seasons between 2014 and 2019.

In 2019, he also had a recurring role in the dark-comedy drama series American Princess, which was about the life of Amanda, an Upper East Side socialite, who runs off from her wedding to join a Renaissance Faire and finds out that her fiancé was cheating on her. The series was cancelled after just one season.

Tommy Dorfman was also seen in two episodes of Insatiable, an American dark comedy-drama web series, which had aired on Netflix. The same year, he also made his theatrical debut in The New Group’s production of Jeremy O.Harris’ play Daddy, which was directed by Danya Taymor.

In 2020, he played guest roles in the TV shows Love, Victor and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.
