While Yazici has grown up with a Turkish father and has been quite close to his father’s side of the family, he does not naturally have a Turkish accent. However, he decided to speak like his relatives from Turkey when he came up with his YouTube character Barney. He was referred to as “John” in the early videos of ‘Sky Vs Gaming’ channel by Skydoesminecraft (Adam), RedVacktor (Red), and Jinbop. He and Adam have been close friends since they were in high school together. For his Minecraft character, he chose a skin that is based on Barney the dinosaur and added an eye patch to put his own spin on it.

He created the channel on April 23, 2015. The first video on it was uploaded on June 19, 2015. Titled ‘STEALING THE JET (GTA 5 Funny Moments) w/ ThatGuyBarney’, it features two other gaming content creators, Red and SGC Barbierian (Nick).

In mid-2015, he had begun collaborating on videos with House_Owner/YourPalRoss (Ross), Aphmau (Jess) and JinBopGaming (Jin). All members of that group of gamers, save for Jess and Jin, made their content in an office building in Washington state with the help of their editors Mithzan (Max) and TimTim/Timdot.tv.

During this period, he was putting out content on games like Minecraft, GTA, and Call of Duty and attracting a lot of traffic to his videos. For a while, he was even a vlogger. However, he suddenly stopped uploading content in late 2016 without offering any explanation. On April 7, 2017, he posted the video, ‘Why I Quit YouTube?!’ In it, he speaks at length about the two reasons for which he left the video-sharing platform, his sense of purpose and his depression. He also promised that he would start posting videos again.

On January 16, 2018, he made his return to YouTube, posting the video ‘Overwatch Competitive Life - I'm Back!’ Since then, he has primarily uploaded content on Overwatch and Fortnite. However, his popularity on the platform has drastically diminished following his absence. At present, his videos only garner a few thousand views each.

On Instagram, he has about 300 thousand followers, while on Twitter, he has accumulated over a hundred thousand followers. He has a second channel under the username ‘BarneyPlays’ with over ten thousand followers and over a hundred thousand views. It was created on August 14, 2017, and has exclusively Minecraft content on it. However, he has not posted any videos on it in over a year.
