Tessa Violet is an American YouTube personality, singer, and songwriter. She first gained prominence as a vlogger in 2009, when she won $100,000 for becoming the YouTuber with the most commented video. With more than a million subscribers, her self-titled channel is one of the 500 most-subscribed YouTube channels in the world. After achieving tremendous success as a YouTuber, Tessa expanded her range by plunging into music and released her own albums. Tessa also flexed her muscles as a songwriter as she penned down an entire album, titled ‘Maybe Trapped Mostly Troubled.’
Childhood & Early Life
Tessa Violet was born on March 20, 1990, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. She was raised in Oregon, where she attended ‘Ashland High School.’ Tessa developed interest towards acting at a very young age and performed in theater during high school.
In 2007, Tessa took up a school project, for which she had to come up with a vlog. She was no stranger when it came to making a vlog as she had already created a YouTube channel. Since she had already posted a few vlogs on her channel, Tessa had no problems in acing her project.
On June 6, 2008, she graduated high school as one of the members of the ‘National Honor Society.’ By now, she had already started her career as a fashion model and had visited places like Thailand and Hong Kong as part of her modeling projects. However, Tessa soon quit modeling in order to concentrate on her social media career, which would eventually act as a launch pad for her career in music.

Tessa had begun her musical career way back in 2008 by using her YouTube channel as a platform. She released her debut extended play ‘Days of’ in 2012. She gained prominence as a musician in 2014, when she released her hit album ‘Maybe Trapped Mostly Troubled.’ The album, which was produced by Seth Earnest, explored themes, such as love, anxiety, co-dependency, and self-worth.
After the success of ‘Maybe Trapped Mostly Troubled,’ Tessa went on a number of tours, including ‘The Living Room Tour,’ which featured Rusty Clanton. The tour had them visiting nine locations to perform live in the living rooms of random fans. While the first 30 minutes of the show had Rusty Clanton playing his original music, the next 30 minutes had Tessa playing her music.
In July 2015, Tessa and Rusty toured the western half of the States in what was dubbed as ‘Return of the Living Room Tour.’ In 2016, she featured in ‘The TransAtlantic Tour,’ alongside artists like Jon Cozart, Dodie Clark, and Rusty Clanton. She also accompanied fellow YouTuber and singer Bry O'Reilly for a tour in the United Kingdom.
On October 14, 2016, she released an extended play titled ‘Halloway.’ The EP had five songs, including the hit single ‘Dream.’ In 2018, she released another album titled ‘Bad Ideas.’ Tessa Violet has been on a number of tours, thanks to her collaboration with various musicians and social media stars.

At the very beginning of her career as a YouTuber, Tessa Violet had collaborated with local bands and fellow YouTubers. On January 11, 2012, she went on a 17-city tour called ‘The Dial Up Tour,’ covering places in the U.S.A and Canada. She was accompanied by fellow YouTubers, namely Shawna Howson, Olan Rogers, Alex Carpenter, Mitchell Davis, Jason Munday, and Kyle Sibert.
Before collaborating with Rusty Clanton for their tours, Tessa had already appeared in Rusty’s YouTube videos and vlogs. In fact, she had teamed up with Rusty Clanton in December 2014, to form a band called ‘People You Know.’ The duo released an album titled ‘You, Me and Christmas.’ The album had four cover songs and an original song titled, ‘You and Christmas.’
Tessa Violet has also collaborated with many other YouTubers and musicians like Emma Blackery, Hazel Hayes, Dodie Clark, Bry, Hannah Witton, and Lucy Moon. She has also teamed up with Shawna Howson on many occasions, as they have appeared in a number of videos together.
She has appeared as a guest performer in a number of music videos, including ‘Beat the Heat,’ ‘The Break Up Song,’ ‘It's Chill,’ and ‘Where Did U Go.’ She has also appeared in one of Ray William Johnson’s project titled ‘Breaking Los Angeles.’
In 2011, Tessa donned the hat of the director of photography for one of Shawna Howson’s video titled ‘Sail.’ She also featured in the video, which went on to amass millions of views. On September 24, 2012, she was seen in one of the music videos of the popular American Christian rock band, ‘Family Force 5’ (FF5). Tessa has also directed a music video for a song titled ‘Chainsaw.’
Apart from being a successful YouTuber and musician, Tessa Violet has also flaunted her acting skills at various levels in her career. After appearing in a web-series called ‘The Professionals,’ she went on to appear as Tricia in an independent movie titled, ‘The Matchbreaker.’ She also wrote a song titled ‘Cash Cash Money’ for the movie.
