Penny Tovar Bio

After graduating high school, Penny launched her YouTube channel in June 2013 at just 17 years old, uploading her first video, “Healthy & Natural Curly Hair Care + Tips!” a month later. Originally titled CurlyPenny, the channel was inspired by her hip-length curls and quickly became a trusted destination for natural hair enthusiasts.

Beyond YouTube, Penny runs a blog titled A Penny for Your Thoughts, where she discusses topics ranging from beauty and lifestyle to comedy, current events, and advocacy. With an audience of over one million fans across platforms, she has collaborated with major organizations and spoken at global events. Notably, she partnered with the Ad Council and served as a speaker for the United Nations and Hispanicize, where she addressed important issues such as education, sustainability, and Hispanic representation in media.

Penny Tovar was born in San Jose, California, to Mexican immigrant parents. Her older sister, Ana Tovar, was born in Mexico, while her younger sister, Salem Tovar, is also a popular YouTuber with more than 500,000 subscribers. Penny is married to Martin Parrao, an immigrant from Santiago, Chile. The couple, who have been together since 2012, currently reside in Washington State with their Chihuahua, Kiwi.

She is personally acquainted with several fellow creators, including Vereena Sayed, Nava Rose, Bianca Renee, India Batson, and Ayesha Malik.
