Lucas Jade Zumann is an American actor, best recognised for his performance in the American supernatural horror film ‘Sinister 2,’ and the Canadian drama television series ‘Anne with an E.’ He was first spotted by a talent agent while auditioning at a Disney talent search. He stepped into the world of acting as part of an ensemble cast of a Music Theater Works production of the musical ‘Oliver.’ He featured as "punk" in a single episode of the Netflix series ‘Sense8,’ before landing up his first major role, ‘Milo,’ in his debut film, ‘Sinister 2.’ Moving on, he starred in the critically acclaimed film ‘20th Century Women.’ He has also upped his fame playing Gilbert Blythe in ‘Anne with an E.’
Rise to Fame
A talent agent discovered Lucas during an audition for a Disney talent search at the Chicago-based talent agency, ‘Paskal Rudnicke Casting.’ He made his acting debut as part of an ensemble cast of a 2012 stage production of the famous musical, ‘Oliver!’ presented by ‘Music Theater Works’ (erstwhile ‘Light Opera Works’). He appeared in a cameo role of Punk #2 in a single episode of science fiction drama web television series ‘Sense8.’ The episode titled ‘Death Doesn't Let You Say Goodbye’ was aired during season one of the Netflix series on June 5, 2015. His first major role came with the supernatural horror film, ‘Sinister 2.’ He played ‘Milo’ in the film that also starred James Ransone and Shannyn Sossamon. The film received unfavourable reviews, but became a blockbuster hit grossing over $54 million at the box-office against a budget of $10 million.
He portrayed ‘Henry Perry’ in the 2016 adventure comedy film, ‘Thrill Ride.’ The film also starred Kristen Johnston and Tim Kazurinsky. That year, he also garnered attention for his portrayal of Jamie Fields, a fifteen-year-old high school student, in the Mike Mills directed comedy-drama film, ‘20th Century Women.’ Besides Lucas, the film also starred Annette Bening, Billy Crudup, Greta Gerwig and Elle Fanning. The film was said to be based on Mill’s childhood. The film received several awards and nominations, including an Oscar nomination and two Golden Globe nominations, but failed at the box-office. The same year he portrayed the character of Lucas Hicks in two episodes of the NBC aired action-drama television series, ‘Chicago Fire.’
Lucas appears as ‘Gilbert Blythe’ in the drama television series, ‘Anne with an E.’ The series airs in Canada on CBC Television and is available for streaming on Netflix. It has garnered him widespread recognition across the globe. It premiered on March 19, 2017, on CBC and completed 2 seasons encompassing 17 episodes. It was renewed for a 10-episode third season by CBC and Netflix in August 2018 and is scheduled to be premiered in 2019.
He played the role of Nathan in the 2018 romantic fantasy drama film, ‘Every Day.’ The film is based on a novel by David Levithan, bearing the same title. It was a commercial success.
The upcoming drama film, ‘To the Stars,’ features him in the role of ‘Jeff Owings.’ He will also star as ‘James Whitman’ along with Taylor Russell and Jason Isaacs in the forthcoming drama film, ‘Dr. Birds Advice For Sad Poets.’
