Rise to Stardom

Lizzy Tannerites, along with her siblings and parents, has been active on their family YouTube channel Tannerites ever since the uploading of the first video. The channel was created in July 2015 by her parents to document and cherish their lives after Lizzy’s mother beat cancer after going through 28 radiation sessions. Lizzy was the center of attention in the very second video on the channel as she went to kindergarten for the first time and then again in the fourth video celebrating her sixth birthday. While the family started out by regularly sharing vlogs on the platform – recording important milestones in their lives or just their day-to-day activities – they later began to incorporate other types of videos including challenges, travel videos, daily routines, shopping hauls, tutorials and more.

They also often posted different series of videos such as SINGLE QUESTION SUNDAY!! – an unedited one-take video asking one question to all family members – and a Q&A series focusing on a particular member each time. Lizzy starred in her own Q&A video on April 2, 2016 in which she answered several fan questions covering her favorite things to sharing a room with her sisters. The family, which posted almost daily, and sometimes more than once a day, further created a second channel on June 15, 2017 called Yawi Vlogs, referring to their catchphrase “You ARE Worth It” or “Yawi”, which became their primary vlogging channel. In about half a decade, the Tannerites have gained a massive seven million subscribers combining both their channels.

Family & Personal Life

Lizzy Tannerites was born on September 4, 2009 in Utah, United States to Johnny and Sarah Tanner, who refer to their big brood as the “Tannerites” on social media. Her father was involved in Inside Sales at Lansing Building Products between 2004 and 2015 and later became a partner at LivingTags. Her mother, who has family members in Sweden, is a cancer survivor who had a tumor removed from her abdomen after the birth of her seventh child. The parents, who were only 17 when they welcomed their first child out of wedlock, later eloped to start a family. Lizzy is the fifth of seven children of her parents and is their youngest daughter. She has three brothers and three sisters: Branson (b. 1998), Allie (b. 2001), Daniell (b. 2004), Savannah (b. 2007), Az (b. 2012) and Canyon (b. 2015). Branson is already married and recently welcomed his first child, Neymar, with his wife Mara. The family is part of the Church of The Latter Day Saints. Lizzy and her siblings are homeschooled.

Controversies & Scandals

Lizzy Tannerites’ parents, despite their huge fan base, have often been criticized by viewers for their content, as well as the way they raise their children. For instance, they have often been accused of monetizing their kids’ distress because of the fact that a large number of their videos show the kids at their lowest moments while trying to create drama and suspense regarding their sicknesses and injuries. One particular video that received a lot attention was titled HURRY Home MOMMY! Az Needs To Go To The EMERGENCY ROOM!, in which the parents, who were called back from their couple's retreat by their panicking teenage daughter, made sure to keep the camera rolling as their 7-year-old son was rushed to the emergency following a serious head injury.

Some of the viewers also found it uncomfortable that they broadcasted private moments of their daughters, like their period experiences. If all these did not put their parenting technique to question, they also decided to start homeschooling their youngest five children at one point, after which many of their videos detailed their struggles with homework and assignments as the parents were not there guide them. Unsurprisingly, their daughter Daniell eventually decided to drop out of school as her homeschooling credits could not be transferred. What is more appalling is that her younger siblings have already expressed their desire to do the same.
