Jojo Siwa, also known as Joelle Joanie Siwa, is an American social media star, dancer, actress, and singer. She was the youngest contestant to participate in the second series of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition and she gained popularity when she appeared in the fifth-sixth season of Dance Moms reality show. She has also appeared in skits for Nickelodeon’s Not-So-Valentine Special as a guest artist. Her first song, Boomerang, went viral on YouTube and also won her the prestigious RIAA: Gold certifications. Her songs are very motivating and vocal against online bullying. She is also a successful entrepreneur and sells her merchandise and accessories at retail stores and online stores. Jojo Siwa signed a book deal with iReach/ Amulet Books and published the book titled JoJo’s Guide to Sweet Life. Her book talks about her positive attitude toward life and how she battled all social media negativity. The book became a New York Times bestseller!

The Meteoric Rise To Stardom

Jojo Siwa started to dance at the tender age of 5 initially at her mother’s dance school. Her talent became evident to the world when she competed in AUDC (Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition) as the youngest of the lot and she ranked among the top 5 of the finalists but got eliminated within a week.

JoJo Siwa didn’t get disheartened and started to audition for Abby Lee Miller’s ALDC and got selected in 2015. Simultaneously in 2015-2016, Jojo Siwa and her mom started to appear in the reality show Dance Moms 5th-6th season and went on to win the show. While performing in this show she got selected in Abby Lee Dance Company’s elite team, replacing Chloe.

JoJo Siwa also performed as a guest star in Make It Pop, Bizaardvark (Disney Channel), and The Thundermans in 2016. Later, Nickelodeon signed a contract with her to perform for their channel. In 2016, she won the Industry Dance Award as the favorite dancer in the seventeen years age group category. She went on to star in series like Lip Sync Battle Shorties, School of Rock, SpongeBob SquarePants, All That, Keeping Up with the Karadashians, and Middle School Moguls.

In 2020, she made an appearance on the American reality television program ‘The Substitute.’ That same year, she was also seen on The Masked Singer and Celebrity Watch Party. She next starred in Celebrity Family Feud, Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, and America's Got Talent. In 2022, she portrayed ‘Madison’ in the mockumentary musical drama television series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Besides television shows, JoJo Siwa has also starred in films. In 2019, she voiced ‘Jay and Kira’ in the animated action comedy film The Angry Birds Movie 2 directed by Thurop Van Orman. The film was praised by critics and grossed over $152.8 million at the box office. JoJo Siwa's first song video uploaded on YouTube, I Can Make U Dance, became very popular and she further justified her singing talent with the profound success of her single Boomerang. In this song, she raises her voice against all the negative comments shared through social media. JoJo Siwa further states that one should not listen to the haters but come back with a bang and fulfill their dreams.

As JoJo Siwa gained popularity, her signature colorful bows and accessories became a fashion trend. In 2013, she released her exclusive Jo Jo Collection (Dancewear) with Tilt Dancewear (shop) and in 2016, she signed a business contract with Claire’s.
