Jimmy Moreno, popularly known as HighDistortion, is an American esports gamer and YouTuber who became famous after playing ‘Fortnite’. Prior to becoming a professional esports player, HighDistortion, started off playing popular video games along with his friends. He played ‘Gears of War’ professionally for almost ten years and made a name for himself through his unique style of playing. While most preferred playing in teams, HighDistortion often played solo squads and solo vs duos, where he would compete against a team. His aggressive style worked in his favor and he became a popular gamer. After ‘Gears of War’, he started playing ‘Overwatch’ and ‘PUBG’ competitively. His most famous stint, however, came with ‘Fortnite’, a game released in 2017. After its release, HighDistortion, realized he was a natural at it and started focusing on streaming his games. At the same time, he joined YouTube to upload highlights and other gaming achievements. His success with ‘Fortnite’ paid off when he was asked to join Team SoloMid, an esports organization in the US, to represent them at ‘Fortnite’ events. His next biggest highlight came when he reached 100,000 eliminations in January 2019, and he currently holds this title. Presently, he has over 1.5 million Twitch followers who follow his livestreams and has over 19 million views across his YouTube videos.
HighDistortion was among those who entered the world of online gaming quite early in the age of the Internet. In one of his interviews, Moreno mentions how he began by playing with a group of friends and eventually made his way to the top after working hard. He knew his strategy and strengths early on in his gaming career. He recognized that he worked well as a solo player and decided to stick to the same pattern for the rest of his career. To this end, he participated in solo vs duos and solo squads, which meant that he singlehandedly competed against teams of two players and/or more. This earned him more points and fame.
HighDistortion started off by playing ‘Gears of War’ and came to be known as an aggressive, flashy player. He made his name around the circuit by defeating the most competitive of gamers and his reels were often circulated as a highlight. After ‘Gears of War’, HighDistortion switched to competitive ‘Overwatch’ and managed to excel at that as well. However, his breakthrough occurred with the release of the Epic Game’s ‘Fortnite’ in 2017. After ‘Fortnite’ was available for free, gamers across the world jumped into playing this competitively. HighDistortion also joined YouTube around the same time to upload videos of his highlights and live stream games. In no time, his channel quickly grew, and it currently boasts a subscriber count of over 415 K subscribers.
With each passing video, his fame spread, and he was consequently approached by Team SoloMid (TSM), an esports organization in early 2018. In what he calls the highlight of his career, HighDistortion signed up with TSM to represent them at Fornite Prior. It was at this moment that he knew he had a career as a gamer. Since then, he has never looked back and is currently reputed to be among the top ‘Fortnite’ players in the world. In January 2019, he achieved the feat of being the first gamer to hit 100,000 kills. This not only elevated his reputation in the gaming society, but it also helped him reach a wider audience and increase his social media following. The race to 100,000 eliminations wasn’t easy as another player, Ninja, was almost always ahead of the leaderboard. HighDistortion’s persistence coupled with his aggressive discipline helped him climb the charts and he finally claimed the title of having the most eliminations on January 9, 2019.
