Career

Evelyn McGee-Colbert is an occasional actress who has contributed to a number of good film and TV projects.

In 1999, she first appeared in the TV series ‘Strangers with Candy,’ where she played Nurse Chestnut while her husband portrayed the character of Chuck. She reprised the role when a film based on the series was made in 2005.

In 2012, Evelyn and her husband were featured in an episode of the TV series "Oprah's Next Chapter.” Evelyn also acted in the hit film ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ in 2013. The same year, she had a role in the flick ‘Alpha House’ as well.

Relationship with Stephen Colbert

Evelyn McGee and Stephen Colbert were raised in same city and their parents even knew each other. However, the two didn’t meet each other until 1990. McGee met her future-husband at the "Spoleto Festival" and both instantly fell in love.

According to Colbert, at the time, he was in a relationship with a woman named Ann but was not sure whether he wanted to marry her. He decided to call it quits with her. Around this time, the actor went to a musical and saw Evelyn in the line to get snacks at the show. When he first saw her, he said to himself: “That's your wife. You're going to marry her. You will kick yourself for the rest of your life if you do not turn around and say hello to her!”

When Colbert finally approached Evelyn, they realized that they had a deep connection. They kept looking at each other and talked for two hours straight. At that time, they both knew that they were made for each other. Shorty after, the two began dating and finally got married on October 9, 1993. Today, Evelyn and Colbert have been married for more than 25 years and their love is still as strong as ever. They have three children: John, Peter, and Madeline.
