Cristela Alonzo Biography

Cristela Alonzo worked as a stand-up comedian. She appeared in multiple TV shows before she began her own show. She became popular after the multi-camera sitcom ‘Cristela’ started airing in October 2014. She was the main creator of the series with Kevin Hench, Becky Clements, Marty Adelstein and Shawn Levy serving as the co-creators. The show revolved around the life of Cristela Hernandez, a Mexican-American law graduate living in Dallas, Texas. She tries to achieve her aim of living the American Dream by working as an unpaid intern at a law firm. She has to deal with her boss, Trent Culpepper, who is slightly racist, and his daughter Maddie, who is known for her spoiled behavior. The series was met with generally mixed reviews. It was cancelled after a single season.

Other works she is known for include the 2016 animated comedy film ‘The Angry Birds Movie’, where she voiced one of the supporting characters. The film was a huge success commercially, earning $352 million on a budget of $73 million, around five times its budget. The critical reception was mostly mixed. Cristela Alonzo was born in San Juan, Texas, in US, on January 6th, 1979. Her parents are Natalia Gonzalez and Adalberto Alonzo. She is the youngest of four siblings. She has claimed that she never met her father, and she was raised by her mother as a single parent. She has also stated that her mother worked very hard and had to work double shifts to make ends meet. According to Alonzo, she grew up on the border of San Juan, Texas. She later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian.
