Rise to Stardom

Aidan Williams started his social media journey by joining TikTok and Instagram in June 2019. While he mostly shared a few pictures from his family trips and homecoming on Instagram, he began posting short funny videos about his experiences about life as a sports-loving teenager on TikTok. His first viral video on the platform was one from June in which he made fun of baseball players that received over 100k views within a short period. In the following months, he went on to share lip-syncs and short videos with captions, often featuring his younger brother Zach.

In about one year, he had already amassed over two million followers on his primary TikTok profile, apart from creating two more profiles with the handles @pshguy and @aidswilliams. However, around this time, there was uncertainty about the future of the TikTok app in the country due to the US President’s threat to ban it, which prompted him to contemplate focusing on the newly announced Reels feature on Instagram. He told Forbes in August that he was “brainstorming” ways “to get the biggest audience I can on Instagram”, further adding that he was considering making “videos that are connected to each other, so people want to see the next ones”. He also started to include his Instagram username in the captions of his TikTok videos, including the one that joked about a proposed Microsoft buyout of the platform which, he told CNET, helped him add 10k new followers on Instagram. He also cancelled a plan to move to Los Angeles fearing his source of income will dry up. While he became more active on Instagram around this period and got his profile verified in November 2020, he would post mainly pictures with his friends and family from school and his various trips. He, however, continued to post videos on TikTok, even though he became less active on social media in general after entering college.
