Famous Finnish Football Players

Teemu Pukki is a Finnish football player who has played for the Finland national team in important tournaments like the UEFA European Football Championship and Baltic Cup. He also plays in prominent leagues like the English Football League and is currently playing for the Norwich City Football Club.

Sami Hyypiä is a Finnish former football player who was an important member of the Finland national team. At the time of his retirement, Hyypiä was Finland's second most capped player after Jari Litmanen with 105 caps. Sami Hyypiä successfully established himself as a manager after retiring as a player.  

Lukáš Hrádecký is a Finnish football player who plays as a goalkeeper for the Finland national team and Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen. Starting from 2016, Hrádecký was adjudged Finnish Footballer of the Year for three years in a row. In 2020, Lukáš Hrádecký helped his national team qualify for the UEFA European Championship for the first time.

Joel Pohjanpalo is a Finnish football player who plays as a striker. An important player for the Finland national football team, Pohjanpalo has also played for popular clubs like Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburger SV. 

Jussi Jääskeläinen is a Finnish former football player who played as a goalkeeper. An important player for Finland, Jääskeläinen earned 56 caps for the national team. In 2001, he helped his team win the Nordic Football Championship title. Jussi Jääskeläinen is currently working as a football coach.

Mikael Forssell is a Finnish retired football player who played as a striker. He represented his national team in 87 games between 1999 and 2014. He scored 29 goals for his country, the second highest number of goals by a Finnish player.

Tim Sparv is a Finnish retired football player who played as a midfielder. Over the course of his career, he won 84 caps for the Finland national team and represented the team in prestigious tournaments like the Baltic Cup. Tim Sparv helped his team win the silver medal and the bronze medal at the 2012 and 2014 Baltic Cup respectively.

Antti Niemi is a Finnish retired football player who played as a goalkeeper. He represented the Finland national team from 1992 to 2007 and also played for Premier League clubs like Portsmouth Football Club during his playing career. Antti Niemi has also worked as a goalkeeping coach for the Finnish national team.          

Roman Eremenko is a football player who plays as a midfielder. Best known for his performance while playing for FC Dynamo Kyiv, Eremenko helped the team win the Ukrainian Premier League in 2009. He was also a regular member of the Finland national team prior to his two-year ban in 2016 for cocaine use.

Shefki Kuqi is a Finnish retired football player who spent much of his career playing for clubs like Newcastle United, Swansea City, and Ipswich Town. He also played for the national team, scoring eight goals in 62 appearances. After retiring as a player, Shefki Kuqi worked as a manager for teams like FC Honka and FC Inter Turku. 

Robin Lod is a Finnish football player who plays as a midfielder. He is best known for his association with HJK between 2011 and 2015, during which he helped the team win a Finnish League Cup, Finnish Cup, and three successive Veikkausliiga titles. Robin Lod currently plays for the Minnesota United FC.

Niklas Moisander is a Finnish football player who plays as a defender. From 2008 to 2017, he was an important player for the Finland national team, during which he was named Finnish Footballer of the Year twice. Niklas Moisander also plays for popular clubs and is the winner of prestigious tournaments like the Johan Cruyff Shield and Svenska Cupen.

Niko Hämäläinen is a US-born football player who plays for the Finland national team. Although he was born and raised in the US, Hämäläinen was eligible to play for Finland through his Finnish father. In 2015, Niko Hämäläinen was named Promising Player of the Year by the Football Association of Finland.  

Alexander Ring is a Finnish footballer who represented the national team from 2011 to 2018. He participated in tournaments like the Baltic Cup and helped his team win the silver medal and the bronze medal at the 2012 and 2014 Baltic Cup respectively. Ring is also known for his association with HJK, winning the Finnish Cup and Veikkausliiga in 2011.

Jesse Joronen is a Finnish football player who plays as a goalkeeper. Since 2013, he has been representing the Finland national team. He has also played for popular clubs like Copenhagen and Fulham and is currently a part of the Serie B club Venezia.

Former footballer Alexei Eremenko is the son of legendary Russian footballer Alexei Eremenko Sr. The Russian-born sports star grew up in Finland and made his senior debut with the Finnish club FC Jokerit. He later also won the Russian Cup with Rubin Kazan and the Finnish Cup with HJK Helsinki.

Përparim Hetemaj is a Finnish football player who represented his national team from 2009 to 2017, during which he scored four goals in 50 appearances. A midfielder, Hetemaj was part of the team that won the silver medal and the bronze medal at the 2012 and 2014 Baltic Cup respectively. Përparim Hetemaj currently plays for Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi (HJK).

Rasmus Schüller is a Finnish football player who plays for his national team. Schüller is also known for his association with HJK where he has won five Veikkausliiga, three Finnish Cups, and one Finnish League Cup so far. Rasmus Schüller currently plays for Djurgårdens IF.     

Thomas Lam is a Finnish-Dutch football player best known for winning the KNVB Cup and Johan Cruijff Shield with AZ Alkmaar and PEC Zwolle respectively. He also plays for the Finnish national team in important tournaments like the UEFA European Football Championship. 

Kasper Hämäläinen is a Finnish football player who played for the Finland national team from 2008 to 2019. He earned 63 caps and scored nine goals for his country. He also represented Finland at the 2012 Baltic Cup where they finished second. Kasper Hämäläinen currently plays for Turun Palloseura (TPS).

Boris Borisovich Rotenberg is a footballer known for winning the Russian Premier League when he was playing for Lokomotiv Moscow. He is also a two-time Russian Cup winner. Rotenberg's place in clubs like Lokomotiv has been questioned by media outlets and the coaches of these teams have been accused of giving in to the pressure exerted by his wealthy family.

Njazi Kuqi is a Finnish retired football player who earned 12 caps for his country between 2005 and 2013. He was part of the team that finished second in the 2012 Baltic Cup. Apart from representing the national team, Njazi Kuqi also played for popular clubs like Birmingham City, Blackpool, and Olympiacos Volos during his career.

Berat Sadik is a Finnish professional football player who represented his national team from 2008 to 2015. Sadik, who has also played for clubs like Arminia Bielefeld, Krylia Sovetov, and HJK, currently plays for Doxa Katokopias.

Robert Ivanov is a Finnish football player who plays as a defender for the Finland national team. At the club level, he is best known for his association with FC Honka, for which he played from 2016 to 2020. Robert Ivanov currently plays for Warta Poznań.

Sergei Eremenko is a Finnish professional footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for HIFK Fotboll. Before signing with HIFK, he played for clubs like FF Jaro, Spartaks Jūrmala, and Basel. Sergei Eremenko also represented his national team at junior level.

Abukar Mohamed is a Finnish professional football player who plays as a midfielder. After representing the Finland national teams at the junior level, Abukar Mohamed went on to play for popular clubs like Tampereen Pallo-Veikot (TPV), Turun Palloseura (TPS), Lazio, and Football Club Karpaty Lviv.

Swedish-born Finnish-Moroccan-origin footballer Robin Tihi initially played for the Sweden U-19 national football team and later switched to Finland U-21 national team. Starting his youth career with the Swedish club Vasalunds IF, the promising defender later represented Värnamo, AIK, and AFC Eskilstuna.

Professional footballer Albion Ademi, who plays in the position of winger, presently plays for the Finnish football club Lahti on loan from Swedish club Djurgården. He played for several Finnish football clubs like TPS and EIF, and represented Finland at under-17 and under-19 youth levels and thereafter became part of the Albania U21 national team.

Ahmed Said Ahmed is a Somali professional football player who plays for the Somalia national football team. He chose to represent Somalia in international tournaments in spite of having Finnish citizenship. Ahmed Said Ahmed also plays for Vantaan Jalkapalloseura (VJS).

Jasin-Amin Assehnoun is a Finnish football player who plays for the Finland national team. A midfielder, Assehnoun also plays for the Dutch football club FC Emmen. Jasin-Amin Assehnoun has also represented clubs like FC Espoo and FC Lahti in the past.

Born to a Finnish mother and a Moroccan father, football sensation Nora Heroum started training in football with her older brother. Starting her youth career with FC Viikingit, she later played for clubs such as Brescia and Milan. She has also represented the Finnish national team.

Somali football player Hussein Abdikarim Mohamed presently plays for the Somalia national team (which is nicknamed the Ocean Stars) in the position of a winger. He represented the Somalia national team on September 10, 2019, in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Zimbabwe where his team had a 3–2 loss. Hussein holds Finnish citizenship as well.

Finnish footballer Omar Jama, a promising midfielder, started his youth career with HJK and later played for teams such as PS Kemi and Ekenäs IF. He now represents IF Gnistan. Though he represented the Finnish national team till the U-18 level, he later switched to the Somalian national team.
