Juliette Binoche is a French actress, artist and dancer who began her career on stage productions before acting in films of auteur directors like Jean-Luc Godard in 'Hail Mary' (1985), Jacques Doillon in 'Family Life' (1985) and André Téchiné in 'Rendez-vous' (1985). She made her international debut in the English-language film, 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' (1988).
Her performance in Krzysztof Kieślowski's 'Three Colours: Blue' (1993) won her the 'Venice Film Festival Award’ for ‘Best Actress' and a 'César Award'. In 1996, she gained critical acclaim for appearing in Anthony Minghella's 'The English Patient', for which she earned an 'Academy Award' and a 'BAFTA' for 'Best Supporting Actress', as well as the 'Best Actress Award' at the 1997 'Berlin International Film Festival'. She earned an 'Academy Award for Best Actress' nomination for her performance in Lasse Hallström's romantic comedy 'Chocolat' (2000).
Throughout the 2000s, her filmography included several successful French and English language mainstream and art-house productions, which included 'Jet Lag' (2002), 'Caché' (2005), 'Breaking and Entering' (2006), and 'Certified Copy' (2010), for which she won the 'Best Actress Award' at the 'Cannes Film Festival'.
