Towards the end of WWII, Hana, a nurse moves into a monastery to care for a severely burnt man. The man - Almásy - later narrates to Hana and couple of new arrivals – Kip and David Caravaggio - his life story which involves his work as a cartographer and his passionate but doomed affair with a married woman Katherine.
