Famous Czech Ice Hockey Players

Legendary Czech ice hockey player Jaromír Jágr is known as one of the finest right wingers of his time. A 2-time World Champion and an Olympic gold medalist, he is also known for his stints with NHL teams such as the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins.

Dominik Hašek is a Czech retired ice hockey player who played as a goaltender. He is counted among the greatest goaltenders and is credited with leading his national team to its first Olympic gold medal. In 2014, he was made an inductee of the Hockey Hall of Fame. In 2017, Hašek was mentioned in the 100 Greatest NHL Players list.

Also known as Peter the Great, Peter Šťastný was one of the most prominent offensive players of the NHL. The Slovak-Canadian ice hockey player was second to Wayne Gretzky in terms of the highest scores in the 1980s. A 2-time world champion, he has also been a European parliament member for Slovakia.

Tomáš Plekanec is a Czech ice hockey player best known for his association with the Montreal Canadiens of the NHL where he spent much of his NHL career. He has also represented the Czech national team, winning a silver medal and two bronze medals in World Championships. Tomáš Plekanec also led the national team in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Michal Neuvirth is a Czech ice hockey player who plays as a goaltender. Neuvirth has represented popular National Hockey League (NHL) teams like the New York Islanders, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, and Buffalo Sabres. He is currently signed to Hockey Club Sparta Praha which plays in the Czech Extraliga (ELH).

Czech former professional ice hockey forward Jiří Hudler drafted during the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings won the 2008 Stanley Cup with the Wings. He also played with the Calgary Flames, the Dallas Stars and the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He become part of the AHL Second All-Star Team (2005–06) and won Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (2014–15)    

Czech former professional ice-hockey defenceman Jiří Fischer was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft and played his entire NHL career with the Wings. He won the 2002 Stanley Cup with them. His playing career was cut short following a cardiac arrest in late 2005. He is presently associated with the Wings as their Director of Player Evaluation.

Former professional ice-hockey right winger, Radim Vrbata represented Czech Republic and won the 2001 IIHF World Junior Championship and the 2005 IIHF World Championship. He was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. During his career in the NHL, spanning 16 years, Vrbata also played with the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks and Tampa Bay Lightning.  

Czech former professional ice hockey winger Tomáš Fleischmann was drafted in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings and played with many teams in the National Hockey League, including the Washington Capitals, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, and Montreal Canadiens. He netted a goal as the Czech squad beat Finland to win bronze medal during the 2002 IIHF World U18 Championships.

Also known as George, Czech ice hockey goal tender Jiří Crha was part of the Olympic silver-winning team at the 1976 Innsbruck games. He also represented the Canadian NHL team Toronto Maple Leafs. Post-retirement, he has worked as a player-agent for many Czech and Slovakian hockey players.

Jiří Dopita is a Czech former professional ice hockey player best known for winning the gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics. He also represented the Czech Republic at the World Championships, winning gold medals at the 1996, 2000, and 2001 Championships. Jiří Dopita also won a couple of World Championship bronze medals for his country.
