Famous Slovak Athletes

Galina Chistyakova is a former athlete best known for representing the Soviet Union in the Olympic Games, European Championships, World Indoor Championships, and European Indoor Championships, winning a bronze medal, one silver medal, one gold medal, and six medals, respectively. In 1988, Chistyakova reached 7.52 metres in the long jump, creating a new world record which she continues to hold.

Ján Volko is a Slovak sprinter who has won a gold, silver, and bronze medals at the European Indoor Championships. Volko has also won a couple of silver medals at the European Games. Ján Volko's popularity increased in 2020 when he was chosen as the face of a game called Athletics Mania developed by PowerPlay Studio. 

Matej Toth is a Slovak race walker best known for winning the gold medal in the men's 50 kilometres race walk event at the 2016 Olympic Games. He has also won a gold medal at the World Championships and a couple of silver medals at the European Championships. In 2016, Matej Toth was named Slovak Athlete of the Year.
