Famous Russian Opera Singers

Anna Netrebko is a Russian operatic singer who has performed at popular venues, such as The Royal Opera and Metropolitan Opera. She achieved international fame in 2002, when she played Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at the Salzburg Festival. One of the most decorated operatic singers of her generation, Anna Netrebko was included in the Time 100 list in 2007.

Aida Garifullina is a Russian lyric soprano. She gained mainstream popularity after winning the 2013 Operalia competition and has since been featured in many productions staged at the Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, and the Wiener Staatsoper. She also performed at the 2018 FIFA World Cup opening gala concert. She is currently signed to Decca Records. 

Sergey Lazarev is a Russian singer, actor, and dancer. He is best known for his contribution to the success of the pop duo, Smash. Lazarev has represented Russia twice in the Eurovision Song Contest, finishing third on both occasions. As an actor, Sergey Lazarev is involved in the Russian theatre scene.

Feodor Chaliapin was a Russian opera singer whose expressive bass voice resonated across major opera houses during his time. Such was his popularity that Chaliapin even has a star dedicated to him on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was also made the Commander of the Legion of Honour by the French government in 1934 for his contribution to opera.

Russian actor Olga Baclanova was also a skilled ballerina and opera singer who had a decent career in Hollywood, too. A star of the silent-film age, she was seen in films such as The Wolf of Wall Street and Are You There? Post-retirement, she moved to Switzerland.

Born in the US and raised in Russia, opera singer and pianist Elizaveta Khripounova often experiments with alternative pop, rock, and jazz. He hit tracks have been featured on the soundtracks of series such as Pretty Little Liars. She also sang for a Russian film and the video game Dragon Age Inquisition.
