Social-Media Career: His Rise as a TikTok Star

Zach’s love for dance was evident since his younger days. However, he initially thought he did not have enough talent to made a career as a dancer. As a result, he ignored dance for several years. However, while scrolling through Instagram videos of people doing dance challenges, he realized he wanted to post his own dance videos.

He thus began his journey on TikTok. He was initially known on TikTok as itsundos. He would post hip-hop dance videos, comedy clips, and jokes on the platform. Soon, he earned 3.3 million fans on TikTok. He then created a secondary account on the platform, named zach.jelks. In May 2020, he posted a TikTok clip set to the YFN Lucci song Wet. In June 2020, he became a “verified” TikTok user.

He is also equally popular on Instagram. His first post on the platform dates back to May 2015. His Instagram account, undos, has gained more than 522 thousand followers.

Zach Jelks launched his YouTube channel, undos, on June 12, 2012. He currently has over 662 thousand views and more than 52.2 thousand subscribers on the platform. Controversies

Zach Jelks has been part of quite a few controversies. Toward the end of 2019, when rapper Juice Wrld passed away due to a drug-induced seizure, a few people on social media began mocking his death by posting dance videos pretending to have seizures by shaking and spitting out water. Zach had reportedly posted a similar video before Juice Wrld’s death. However, the rapper’s fans were offended. Zach later clarified that he had not tried to pretend to have a seizure.

Similarly, in mid-2020, Zach was dragged into another controversy when he made a rape joke mentioning Michael Jackson. Apparently, Zach had posted a clip that showed a photo of the deceased "King of Pop" and then showed himself pretending to be a child getting sexually assaulted by him. Following this, fellow TikTok star Hadiya lashed back at him indirectly, by answering a fan’s questions about her reaction to the video.

Zach Jelks then posted an apology video saying those who thought he had made a rape joke were wrong and that it was “the dumbest thing” he had ever heard. He then posted a second apology video, stating that he had toned down his content. However, he also attacked Hadiya, saying, being a Black Lives Matter supporter, she should focus on lifting other black artists up rather than berating them. However, Zach continued getting hate messages and comments on the internet and thus decided to take a formal break from social media.

He then posted a message on social media, thanking his fans for their support and said that he would be back online someday. However, he was back soon, with a post on Instagram, joking about being “cancelled.”

Trivia

When asked about his favorite travel destination, Zach said it was Dubai, as he loved its luxurious appeal.
