Mary Padian is a journalist, businesswoman and reality TV star best known for her appearances on the 'Storage Wars' franchise on A&E Networks. She worked for the design magazine ‘Architectural Digest’ for four years till 2010. There, she was mentored by famed editor-in-chief, Paige Rense, who helped her develop her own style. She later became the owner of "Mary’s Finds", a shop for antique and refurbished furniture as well as various other "treasures" for home decoration. In June 2012, she became a guest star on the first season of the A&E Network reality television series Storage Wars: Texas, which was a regional version of the hit series Storage Wars. She was promoted to the main cast of the show for the next two seasons of the series. Mary also appeared as a guest in the fifth season of the original Storage Wars series in 2014, and became the first star in the franchise to appear in more than one series. She later became one of the main stars of the original series and is still part of the show.
The Meteoric Rise To Stardom
After graduating from college with a degree in photojournalism, Mary Padian briefly worked as an intern at D magazine. She later got the job of an assistant editor for Architectural Digest and moved to New York City. During her stay there, she started to collect home decoration and furnishing items of unique design that were available at a reasonable price. She also created and produced a section on ArchitecturalDigest.com called "Mary's Finds Video Blog" where she showcased her collection. Coming from a huge family with 42 first cousins, she eventually became homesick and returned to Texas to her family after her mentor Paige Rense retired from AD in 2010. Within a year, she opened her own shop in Dallas with the name "Mary's Finds". Moe Prigoff, who used to buy various products from auction houses, frequently visited her store to offer her some of those products. He eventually introduced her to storage unit auctions. She first appeared on the first season of ‘Storage Wars: Texas’ alongside Moe, who was already a part of the show. During the second season of the hit show, she became a main cast member. She gained popularity on the show and went on to appear on the original ‘Storage Wars series.’ She joined the show in season five and proceeded to appear in three episodes that were shot in Long Beach. She returned in the sixth season as a main buyer. Her appearance on the reality TV show made her a quite popular figure and also helped in promoting her own business.

What Makes Mary Padian So Special
On ‘Storage Wars,’ Mary Padian is popularly known as "The Junkster" for her ability to turn "junk" into art pieces. She is well-known for her keen eye and creativity, and became famous by finding "treasures" while searching through trash. In fact, Moe Prigoff, who introduced her to the show by taking her to the auctions, chose her specifically for this skill. She immediately impressed him with her potential and turned most of his salvaged items into sellable artwork for his gallery. After becoming a permanent cast of the Texas edition of the show, she initially placed bids on her own for some time, and then teamed up with Moe or Jenny to buy items together. As she became more confident about her skills, she started to buy items solo once again. She has already established herself as a competent businesswoman determined to take her shop to the next level. She thinks that if one has enough patience and looks sincerely, it is possible to find great design everywhere. It is this very quality of hers that has made her such an important part of the show. As the daughter of a junkyard operator, Mary grew up examining junk, looking for parts that could be salvaged. Her childhood experiences set the foundation for her future career.
A free-spirited woman, Mary Padian can be a bit whimsical at times, which has earned her notoriety despite her fame. She once made a pool table without a fabric surface, which, despite being awesome, was impractical as it failed to serve its purpose of scattering the balls all over the table. The buyers of the table ended up using it as regular table. The ‘Storage Wars’ series itself courted controversy after David Hester, a former star on the show, claimed that the show is rigged. After being cast out of the show, he filed a lawsuit stating that he was dropped for questioning its rigged system. However, the criticism received by the show did not affect Mary Padian’s popularity as a reality TV celebrity. She continued to be the show’s most loved star for her ability to turn unusable pieces of junk into creative artwork and for the innovative refurbished items she made out of “waste” products.
Behind The Curtains
Mary Padian was born on August 24, 1980, in Dallas, Texas to John Gerard Padian and Teresa Ann Padian. She has a mixed heritage; her father is of Irish descent while her mother has a Lebanese ancestry. Her mother is the sister of Texas attorney Bady Sassin. She has a younger brother named Luke. Her parents divorced in 2009. Her father, who ran a scrap metal recycling plant, has been instrumental in her exceptional skills at salvaging. As a young girl, she used to rummage in the junk, looking for items that could be salvaged. She would then either refurbish or revamp the items to make them usable. The unusable items would be used for creating beautiful artworks. She studied photojournalism at the University of Texas at Austin, from where she graduated in 2003. In the episode “Mary’s Big Score” of the show ‘Storage Wars,’ she introduced her boyfriend Dylan, who accompanied her to the auction in El Monte.
