Leslie Mann is an American actress who is known for her performances in comedic films. Mann had an interest in acting right from the time she was a teenager and in fact appeared in commercials for some brands at the time. Her love of acting was the reason why she did not complete her college education and instead trained as an actor in order to become a professional. Mann auditioned for plenty of roles and it was in 1995 that she got her first break when she was chosen to be part of the movie ‘Cable Guy’ and since then she went from strength to strength. Although she has acted in movies which demanded a different set of acting skills; she has primarily carved a niche for herself as a force to be reckoned with in the romantic comedy genre and her 2007 film ‘Knocked Up’ is an example of what she can bring to the table as far as comic timing is concerned. Leslie Mann is an actress who has successfully identified the genre in which she is at her best as an actor and over the years she has given audiences some of the best romantic comedy movies that they can enjoy.

  • Leslie Mann was born to single mother Janet Mann on 26 March 1972, in San Francisco, California. Her father had left her mother before she was born and she did not know him at all. Mann’s mother Janet, who worked as a real estate agent raised her.
  • The family moved to Newport Beach, California at some point during her childhood and that was where Leslie Mann grew up. She studied at the Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach and right from that time she developed an interest in acting. In fact, she started going to auditions while she was still in school.
  • Leslie Mann decided against continuing with her college degree in communications since she had decided to pursue a career in acting following her appearance in commercials for brands like Coke while she was still a teenager. She had also joined the Joanne Baron Studio in order to study acting. She learned acting from the comedy troupe The Groundlings as well.

  • Leslie Mann had started auditioning for roles in movies and in the year 1995 she got her first big break when the casting directors of the film ‘The Cable Guy’ chose her from among hundreds of candidates for the role of the female lead. The following year she starred in the movie ‘George of the Jungle’ in a minor role.
  • Following her debut, Mann appeared in the movie ‘Freaks & Geeks’ in a guest role and in 1999 she paired up with comedy star Adam Sandler in the movie ‘Big Daddy’, which was a success.

  • The year 2009 saw Leslie Mann star in the film comedy ‘Funny People’ with Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen. The film was one of the biggest hits of the year and collected in excess of $100 million worldwide. The film was rated among the top movies of the year by reputed publications and Mann’s role came in for particular praise. Two years later she starred in ‘Change Up’ with Ryan Reynolds, which was another comedy.
  • Following the global success of ‘Knocked Up’, its maker Judd Apatow decided to make a sequel titled ‘This is 40’, in 2012 and Leslie Mann reprised her role in that film. The sequel was well received and Mann’s portrayal of the same character was universally lauded by films critics. She went on to win an award for that role as well. The following year she was cast with Emma Watson in the Sofia Coppola film ‘The Bling Ring’.
