Taz Alam is a Welsh poet, YouTube star, and social media influencer. She is better known by her social media moniker, ClickForTaz. She has gained fame for her spoken word poetry and “Taz Talks” YouTube videos. A native of Cardiff, Taz had a turbulent childhood and grew up with a lot of insecurities. She graduated with a law degree but did not initially know what she wanted to do with her life. However, she did not have any alternative plans either. Eventually, she found out about spoken word poetry. After she composed her first poem and published it online, she garnered a loyal group of audience. In time, that group grew exponentially and she, in turn, experienced personal growth as well, learning the art of filming, editing, writing, performing, and speaking at a public event. She created her YouTube channel in October 2012 and started posting videos soon after. Her initial videos, including vlogs and challenge videos, were on a variety of themes. In October 2015, she uploaded her first poetry video. Since then, she has emerged as one of the most prominent poets on YouTube and has accumulated several thousands of subscribers and millions of views. Taz is popular on other social media platforms as well.
Taz had no idea what to do with her life and someone advised her that pursuing a career in law would be a good idea. She graduated from Cardiff University with a law degree in 2015. She believed that after she graduated, everything would magically fall into place. She would finally know what she wanted to be in life. The reality, however, could not have been more different. She realised that law was not something about which she was passionate and she could not envision herself practising law for the rest of her life. However, at the time, she did not know what her true passion actually was. As a result, she did not have an alternative option.
For a while, she was conflicted between what she calls “the right path” and “the unknown path”. The right path was to continue down the road for which she was trained. She already had the qualification. The unknown path was to take some time off and figure everything out. The latter would require her to step out of her comfort zone and try out new things. However, she knew that this would be very unstable. She hails from a background where she had always been encouraged to specify what the next step in her life would be. She even based her self-worth on it. She has admitted that the transition from that mind-set to a situation where her future was completely unpredictable was terrifying for her.
Initially, Taz struggled. She felt that she had sacrificed everything for nothing. Eventually, she was introduced to spoken word poetry by a friend. Intrigued, she researched the subject and found out more about it. She especially liked how the poets transform their individual emotions into something more powerful and impactful. One night, when she was feeling quite depressed, she composed her first poem.
In the ensuing days, she shared it with her friends and ultimately posted it online. It drastically changed everything for her. Taz had set up a YouTube channel on October 21, 2012. The oldest video was posted on 4 November the same year. From late 2015 onwards, she began posting poetry. Some of the poems that she has posted on YouTube are ‘I Hate Myself’, ‘Depression’, ‘Fat’, ‘Expectations’, ‘It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, ‘Existential Crisis’, ‘Anxiety’, and ‘I Got Help.’
Taz draws heavily from her childhood experiences when she is composing a poem. The transitional period of her life when she did not know what she wanted to do also features prominently. Furthermore, her poetry addresses mental illnesses, societal pressure, and body image issues that are plaguing the modern generation.
She is a fairly frequent vlogger and also makes challenges and mukbang videos. In October 2015, she created a second channel for vlogging but has not posted anything on it yet. In February 2018, she spoke at the TEDxTUM conference in Munich, Germany.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzTcXl-IGPQ

Family & Personal Life
Taz was born on October 27, 1993, in Cardiff, Wales. Little is known about her family except for the fact that they are South Asians. Her childhood was quite rough and she garnered a lot of insecurities that she carried into her adulthood. In one of her videos, she has stated that she grew up wanting to be white. She apparently did not have a role model, a South Asian woman in pop culture, by whom she could be inspired. As a result, she rejected many aspects of her culture rather than embracing them. Even as an adult, while she was pursuing a law degree, she was repeatedly told that it is a profession primarily dominated by white males. While there are women in the profession, they are mostly white as well. As she got older, she educated herself more on the subject of racism and gradually brought down the barriers of perceptions that she had built around herself.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K340L4WlPp0
