Ahmad Suradji’s dead father apparently asked him to collect the saliva of 70 women to gain invincibility, in a dream. This made him kill 42 girls and women, and then bury their bodies in a sugarcane plantation. The Indonesian serial killer was eventually convicted and executed by a firing squad.

Abu Bakar Bashir is an Indonesian Muslim cleric. He co-founded the Al-Mukmin boarding school and is the leader of Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid. According to the United Nations, he is the spiritual head of the extremist Islamist terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah that has links with Al-Qaeda. He was once imprisoned for supporting a jihadi training camp. He was released in 2021.

A Garuda Indonesia pilot and an Indonesian intelligence agent, Pollycarpus Priyanto was convicted of the murder of Indonesian human rights activist Munir Said Thalib with arsenic during a flight from Jakarta to Singapore. Sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment, he was later granted parole. He died of COVID-19 in 2020.
