The Fortune Cookie is a black comedy film which tells the story of Harry Hinkle, a cameraman who gets injured by a football player Luther Jackson. Although his injuries are mild, his cunning brother-in-law William convinces him to pretend that he has been paralyzed, so that they can receive a significant sum of money from the insurance company.

During WWII, Sgt. Dan O’Farrell faces difficulties boosting the morale of his soldiers stationed on a South Pacific island. The American ship bringing in beer gets torpedoed by a Japanese submarine, while the batch of nurses that the crew is eagerly awaiting, delivers 6 men with one ugly nurse. Finally, O’Farrell manages to recover the beer-cans cargo and also, a Japanese sub.  

Pearl White, an attractive, lively sweatshop girl aspires to become an actress. She bags a spot in a theatre company which is run by Michael Farrington. She soon embarks on the road to stardom with the hand-holding from her mentors. She is crowned as the queen of silent movies.
