Osamu Tezuka was a Japanese manga artist, animator, and film producer. He is known as the ‘father of manga.’ He was the force behind the manga animation in Japan. His first Japanese manga, ‘The New Treasure Island,’ was published in 1947. He achieved national fame with his published mangas, such as ‘ATOM’ (1951), ‘Astro Boy’ (1952 - 68), ‘Phoenix’ (1956 -89), and ‘Black Jack’ (1973-83). He entered animation industry in 1961. In 1963, the animated version of ‘Astro Boy’ was broadcast and achieved immediate success. His first animated film was ‘A Thousand and One Nights’ (1969). His other popular films are ‘Adachi-Ga Hara’ (1991), ‘Black Jack: The Movie’ (1996), ‘Princess Knight’ (1999), and ‘Buddha’ (2011). Some of the popular TV series based on his work are ‘Goku's Great Adventures’ (1967), ‘Black Jack’ (2004), ‘Young Black Jack’ (2015), and ‘Dororo’ (2019). He won many awards and a museum was constructed in his honor after his death.
