Mae West Filmography
Mary Jane West, popularly known as Mae West, was an American actress, singer, and writer. She started her career as a child artist and went on to pen several plays before entering Hollywood. As a playwright, West wrote the play ‘Sex’ (1926) for which she was arrested on charges of obscenity. Her next play ‘Diamond Lil’ (1928) became a Broadway hit. Her Broadway success got her noticed by Hollywood agents and she was cast in a short role in ‘Night After Night’ (1932). Her short role made a huge impact and she bagged movies such as ‘She Done Him Wrong’ (1933), ‘Belle of the Nineties’ (1934), and ‘Go West Young Man’ (1936). Her movies were always under scrutiny by the censor board, so she returned to stage plays before taking a detour to Hollywood and starring in her last movie ‘Sextette’ (1978).
