Henry Fonda Filmography
Henry Fonda was a talented Academy Award winning American actor whose career spanned for over five decades. Making his debut as an actor in Broadway, it was in 1935 that Fonda first appeared in films, for 20th Century Fox’s screen adaptation ‘The Farmer Takes a Wife’.
Fonda’s career, in his initial years, blossomed significantly well. Some of his finest films of his early years include ‘The Trail of the Lonesome Pine’, ‘The Moon’s Our Home’, ‘You Only Live Once’, ‘Jezebel’, ‘Young Mr Lincoln’, ‘Jesse James’, and so on. It was in 1940 that Fonda’s career reached critical and commercial acclamation for his film ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ which gained him a nomination at the Academy Award. He followed its success with yet another Academy Award nominated film ’12 Angry Men’. For the film, Fonda received a BAFTA Award.
Fonda’s career has been a mix of both highs and lows, with several hits and flops. Some of his successful films include ‘My Name is Nobody’, ‘The Cheyenne Social Club’, ‘The Oldest Living’ and ‘Gideon’s Trumpet’ while his flops are ‘Tentacles’, ‘Rollercoaster’, ‘The Swarm’, ‘Meteor’ and ‘City on Fire’. Fonda’s best role, however, came for his final film ‘On Golden Pond’, for which he even won an Academy Award for Best Actor.
