When Danny is drafted in the US Army, his best friend, Joe, also gets himself drafted.  As they set sail for South Pacific, they find that their friends, Virginia and Mary, have also enlisted as nurses. During the voyage, Danny smuggles in Mary and is sent to the brig for it. The story then goes on to narrate how he dupes Japanese soldiers to surrender and becomes a hero.
