A Vietnam War veteran John Rambo enters the small town of Hope while travelling and is apprehended by the arrogant Sheriff Teasle. He is tortured which reminds him of the torture he suffered as POW. Hence, he escapes and is aggressively chased by the Sheriff’s men. Colonel Trautman, Rambo's old commander, is now the only one who can stop the chase as well as Rambo’s rampage.
