Charlotte Gainsbourg is a British-French actress and singer who is well-known for her appearances in several Lars von Trier films such as 'Melancholia' and two volumes of 'Nymphomaniac'. Some of her best roles were in 'L'effrontée' (1986) and 'La Bûche' (2000), both of which earned her 'César Awards', and in 'Antichrist' (2009), which earned her 'Best Actress' award at the 'Cannes Film Festival'.
Starting out as a child actor, she appeared with her father, director Serge Gainsbourg, in his controversial film 'Charlotte for Ever' in 1986. In 1988, she appeared alongside her mother, actress Jane Birkin, in 'Kung Fu Master' and 'Jane B. by Agnes V.' She made her English-speaking debut in 'The Cement Garden' (1993), and appeared in several successful movies like 'Jane Eyre', 'The Intruder', 'The Science of Sleep', 'I'm Not There', 'The Tree', 'Confession of a Child of the Century', 'Independence Day: Resurgence' and 'The Snowman'.
