Amitabh Bachchan is an Indian film actor who gained fame as India's first 'angry young man' for his roles in 'Zanjeer' (1973) and 'Deewaar' (1975). With his debut role in 'Saat Hindustani' (1969), he received the 'National Film Award for Best Newcomer', and bagged the 'Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor' for 'Anand' (1971) and 'Namak Haraam' (1973). Some of his other best films from this period are 'Abhimaan' (1973), the top grossing Ramesh Sippy film 'Sholay' (1975), 'Kabhie Kabhie' (1976), 'Amar Akbar Anthony' (1977), and 'Don' (1978). He won the 'Filmfare Award for Best Actor' for the last two.
His later filmography includes 'Trishul' (1978), 'Muqaddar Ka Sikandar' (1978), 'Shaan' (1980), 'Kaalia' (1981), 'Silsila' (1981), 'Shakti' (1982) and Shahenshah (1988). He won 'National Film Award' for 'Agneepath' (1990) and 'Filmfare Award' for 'Hum' (1990). However, his own production 'Tere Mere Sapne' (1996) was a failure.
The new millennium saw him in successful films like 'Mohabbatein' (2000), 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...' (2001), 'Aankhen' (2002), 'Baghban' (2003), 'Khakee' (2004), 'Black' (2005), 'Sarkar' (2005), 'Paa' (2009), 'Piku' (2015) and 'Pink' (2016). He appeared opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in the Hollywood movie 'The Great Gatsby' (2013). He also hosted 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' on television.
