Alan Ladd Filmography
American actor and television producer Alan Ladd was famous in the 1940s and early 50s for his performance in Westerns like ‘Shane’ (1953). He was also well-known for co-starring with Veronica Lake in crime drama films like ‘This Gun for Hire’ (1942) and ‘The Blue Dahlia’ (1946). His first colour movie was the Western ‘Whispering Smith’ (1948). Some of his other hits at the box office include ‘Island of Lost Souls’ (1933), ‘Citizen Kane’ (1941) and ‘The Glass Key’ (1942).
Ladd had a difficult beginning in the film industry when he failed the audition for ‘Golden Boy,’ in 1939. After a long struggle with minor roles, he finally got a break in the wartime drama movie ‘Joan of Paris’ (1942).
He formed his own production company and produced films like ‘Drum Beat’ (1954) and ‘Hell on Frisco Bay’ (1955). His popularity diminished in the late 1950s until his accidental death in January 1964.
