Chinese Female Gymnasts

Gymnast Shang Chunsong grew up amid extreme poverty in a remote village in China, where she and her family would often go without food and heating. Starting her training in gymnastics at age 7, she lifted her family out of drudgery. She captained the Chinese bronze-winning team at the Rio Olympics.

Deng Linlin is a Chinese former gymnast best known for winning gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. The 2009 world champion in Balance Beam, Deng Linlin also won the 2009 National Games All-Around event as well as the 2010 Asian Games Team event.

Olympic silver medalist Tang Xijing is one of the finest young artistic gymnasts of China. She also has a Youth Olympic gold medal in her kitty. She created history by becoming the second Chinese female athlete to score the highest all-around finish in any world championship or Olympic.

Former artistic gymnast and Olympic gold medalist Liu Xuan also has 4 Asian Games gold medals in her kitty. Encouraged by her mother to take up gymnastics, she excelled in the game. She later earned a journalism degree, tried her luck in acting, and also released a pop album.

Olympic bronze medalist Wang Yan also has two Asian Championship gold medals and a World Championship silver medal in her kitty. Though she first retired in 2018, she got back in the game in 2019 to win a team silver at the Chinese National Championship, before retiring again.

Cheng Fei is a Chinese retired artistic gymnast who helped her team win an Olympic gold medal in 2008. She also won two bronze medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Best known for her performance on the vault and floor, Cheng Fei has won three World Championship titles on the vault and the 2006 World Championship title on floor exercise.

Fan Yilin is a Chinese artistic gymnast who specializes in uneven bars. She is best known for helping her team win the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She also won gold medals in the 2015 and 2017 World Championships as well as in the 2015 Asian Championships.

Chinese artistic gymnast and former Olympian Dong Fangxiao created headlines with her infamous disqualification from both the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 1999 World Championships, for competing underage. She and her team thus had to give up their bronze medals won at each of the two games.  

Sang Lan is a Chinese former gymnast and TV personality. Sang's gymnastics career came to an end when she suffered a major injury in 1998, which left her paralyzed from the chest down. Sang has since been serving as an advocate for the disabled. She attained celebrity status in china after appearing in TV shows like Sang Lan Olympics 2008.

Olympic team gold medalist Chinese gymnast Yang Yilin was once accused of competing underage and thus faced disqualification, but later investigations couldn’t find any flaws with her age certificates. She is also an Asian Games champion, a World Championship silver medalist, and a 3-time National Games silver medalist.

The daughter of a taxi driver, Jiang Yuyuan grew up amid extreme poverty but that didn’t deter her ambition. Now a renowned gymnast and an Olympic gold medalist, she is also known for her style quotient. She was once targeted by abusive trolls on Weibo for being involved in an extramarital affair.

Former Chinese gymnast and Olympic bronze medalist Zhou Ping is also known as Sophia Chow. She later married ace Chinese fencer Wang Ruiji. She is also known as the mother of Chinese rapper and budding fencer Jackson Wang. Post-retirement, she joined the Shenyang Sports College as a student.

Chinese artistic gymnast Qi Qi has not only won the Chinese national vault championship twice but is also a Chinese national floor champion. In 2020, she scored a gold at the Chinese Artistic Gymnastics Championships on her birthday, which was one of her 10 medals at the same championship over the years.
