Tom Welling has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most promising young actors of his generation. After his claim to fame role as ‘Clark Kent’ in the television series ‘Smallville’, he was referred to as ‘TV lands newest heartthrob’. Initially a manual construction worker, Tom was discovered by a modelling agent at a party, after which he modelled for Tommy Hilfiger, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Calvin Klein. After a brief modelling stint, he realised that it was not a source of permanent income and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. Subsequently, he attended numerous auditions and screen tests, and acted in a series of TV commercials including ‘Verizon’, ‘7 UP’ and ‘T.J. Maxx’. After an audition, he bagged a role in ‘Judging Amy’, a role that helped him establish himself as a television actor. He also appeared in the movie ‘The Fog’ and television sitcoms ‘Special Unit 2’ and Undeclared’. He made his first feature film appearance as the handsome son of Steve Martin in the American comedy film ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ and also appeared in the sequel ‘Cheaper by the Dozen 2’.

Childhood & Early Life
Tom Welling was born in Putnam Valley, New York and spent most of his early years in different parts of U.S. like Wisconsin, Delaware, and Michigan due to his father’s job in General Motors, which demanded the family to constantly move from one place to another.
His family finally settled in Okemos, Michigan, where he attended the Okemos High School. He was not very proficient academically and preferred to participate in plays and sports in school.
In 1995, following his graduation from high school, he worked as a manual construction worker at a warehouse.

Career
In 1998, while at a party in Nantuket, he was spotted by a photography scout who was looking for a fresh face for a catalogue shoot. Excited by the offer, he accepted to become a print model for Abercrombie & Fitch, an American clothing brand.
Until 2000, he worked for ‘Louisa Modeling Agency’; where he modelled for Tommy Hilfiger, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Calvin Klein. The same year he appeared in Angela Via’s video single ‘Picture Perfect’.
As he was not happy with his modelling career and aspired to be an actor, he decided to move to Los Angeles. Here, he began auditioning for roles and appeared on television commercials for ‘Verizon’, ‘7 UP’ and ‘T.J. Maxx’.
In 2001, he bagged his first major acting role as ‘Karate Rob’ on the CBS television drama ‘Judging Amy’, which successfully ran for 138 episodes.
He appeared on the short lived American science fiction series ‘Special Unit 2’ and on the first episode of ‘Undeclared’, aired on Fox network.
He received fame and recognition for his portrayal of ‘Clark Kent’ in ‘Smallville’, an American television series based on the ‘DC Comics’ character of ‘Superman’.
In 2003, he made his feature film debut in the comedy film ‘Cheaper By The Dozen’, starring Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt.
In 2005, he was cast in ‘The Fog’, a horror film directed by Rupert Wainwright in which he played the role of ‘Nicholas ‘Nick’ Castle’. In the same year, he also appeared in ‘Cheaper By The Dozen 2’.
In 2006, he made his directorial debut with ‘Fragile’ and Smallville’.

In 2009, he founded his own production company, ‘Tom Welling Productions’ and the company’s first project was ‘Hellcats’, a comedy drama series.
He is currently filming for ‘Parkland’, an upcoming drama film directed by Peter Landesman, slated to release in late 2013.
