Susan Elizabeth Amis Cameron is an American environmental advocate, and also a former model and actress. Born in Oklahoma City in the US, she initially began her career as a Ford model. She made her film debut at the age of 23, playing a supporting role in the comedy film 'Fandango'. Directed by Kevin Reynolds, the story revolved around the lives of a few students at the University of Texas. The film was loved and appreciated by critics. Over the years, she appeared in several other films, such as 'Where the Heart Is' and 'The Usual Suspects'. She then appeared in the blockbuster 'Titanic', portraying the granddaughter of the female lead character. Directed by James Cameron, the film was one of the biggest hits of the century. It won a total of eleven Oscars. Two years later, she appeared in 'Judgment Day' which was the last work in her acting career. Apart from acting, she is also known for several ventures concerning environmental issues. She is the co-founder of the MUSE school which is a nonprofit school situated in California. It is reported to be the country's first vegan K-12 school.

Suzy Amis initially worked as a Ford model before making her film debut in the 1985 comedy film ‘Fandango’, directed by Kevin Reynolds. The film was a commercial failure. However, Amis was appreciated by the audience and critics. She then played a main role in the 1988 drama film ‘Rocket Gibraltar’, which dealt with the personal life of a retired Hollywood screenwriter.
She appeared in the films ‘Where the Heart is’ (1990) and ‘Rich in Love’ (1993). Both the films were commercial failures. She earned her first award nomination in 1993 for her performance in the film ‘The Ballad of Little Jo’.
After appearing in films, such as ‘Two Small Bodies’ (1993) and ‘Blown Away’ (1994), she appeared in the Oscar winning film ‘The Usual Suspects’, released in 1995. The film follows the interrogation of a small-time conman by an American customs agent. Gradually the whole story narrated by him becomes too complex to follow. With Amis in a supporting role, the film starred actors Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey, Stephen Baldwin, Benicio del Toro and Kevin Pollak. It was a commercial success and was also praised by critics. It won several awards including two Oscars.
‘Titanic’, the super hit romance disaster film, can be regarded as the most significant work in Amis’ career. Directed by famed Hollywood director James Cameron, the film was a fictionalized account of the famous sinking of the RMS Titanic. The film also explored the story of two youths from different social classes who fall in love during the voyage. The film was a huge commercial success and grossed more than $2 billion worldwide. It was nominated for fourteen Oscars out of which it won eleven.
Amis played a significant role in the TV film ‘Last Stand at Saber River’. The film was based on a 1959 novel of the same name by Elmore Leonard. Featuring Suzy in a main role, the film also starred Tom Selleck, David Dukes, Haley Joel Osment, and Rachel Duncan. The film won two awards as well.
