The Meteoric Rise To Stardom
During high school, he found it interesting to submit school projects in video format with his friends. This led to his passion and eventual fame as a YouTuber and he released his own channel, ShaneDawsonTV in March 2008. In the meantime, he also worked in a weight loss center with his mom and brother from where he was later kicked out because he made a video which had his YouTube team and him using the center for recording videos. He released a video, ‘Fred the Dead’ which became quite popular and has had 24 million views ever since. This boosted his career and soon he had another channel, ShaneDawsonTV2 launched in 2009. His videos were mostly self-depreciating, featuring unapologetically controversial humor, small sketches and spoofs of popular music videos. The year 2010 made him shoot to fame as he won the Teen Choice Award and the Streamy Award for the best vlogger. He also acted in a horror movie, ‘Smiley’ which was nominated for Fangoria Chainsaw Awards as one of the worst movies. He also acted and directed in another movie, ‘Not Cool’.

What Makes Shane Dawson So Special
Shane Dawson is not a subtle comedian. He is amazing at slapstick and his comedy exploits the stereotypical thinking and perceptions of society. He is a funny guy who simply makes you laugh. Even though his comedy can be quite offensive at times, it is still funny.
Tired of making spoofs of music albums, he made his own song video, ‘SUPERLUV!’ in 2012 which reached the 28th spot in US iTunes Pop Chart and held a top position of 16 in the UK Indie charts and since then has continued to be popular.

Beyond Fame
Shane Dawson’s comedy has not always been well received. He is perceived by most as a racist for his comments about the ABC wanting to represent America more completely by including the Hispanics. Shane tweeted “first blackish, now ABC is “fresh off the boat”, which had tweeters calling him a white-centric American whose view of his nation does not include other races. He defended himself saying that ABC was making a very desperate attempt which made it look in bad taste.
Dawson had also previously made videos and comedies of ‘blackfaces’ and according to fellow YouTuber Franchesca Ramsey, Dawson had made comedies in which ‘blackfaces’ were ‘portrayed as stupid, aggressive and over-sexual to influence how people perceived all black people’. Dawson removed his controversial videos and apologized for his obnoxious and insolent manner.
Dawson made a spoof of Taylor Swift’s single ‘Blank Space’ which had her record label citing copyright issues and asked Shane to remove it. Dawson retaliated that since it’s a parody, it was no infringement at all. The record label removed it but Shane persisted and the video was put back on YouTube after a long wait.
Family & Personal Life
Shane claims that his difficult childhood with an alcoholic abusive father was tough. He was his family’s funny bone who made them laugh when there were not-so-funny things going on in their domestic lives. Though his videos are annoying to some, there are some other people out there who need a laugh and turn to his videos to grab a few—critics can take it or leave it.
Shane used to date Nadine Sykora from December 2010 to November 2011; she is a fellow YouTuber with her own YouTube page, ‘HeyNadine’. He later dated Lisa Schwartz, but broke up with her. Soon after, he released his confessional video wherein he stated that he is bisexual. He linked up with Chad Morgan II in 2015. But 2016 saw him with Garrett Watts, but that relationship too lasted for only a month. In 2016, he started dating Ryland Adams, the host, writer and producer for the popular web news network Clevver Media . Shane has four dogs, Miley, Charlie, Chocolate and Unicorn (nicknamed Corny) and two cats, Muffy and Snoop. After all, dogs (cats, too, in this case) are a man’s best friends!
