Maxine Sneed Biography

Maxine Sneed worked as an editor for ‘Black Radio Magazine.’ However, the exact period of her association with the magazine is not known. Not much is known about her professional life apart from her stint with ‘Black Radio Magazine.’ Some sources mention that she was associated with a corporate house as an editor, while according to other sources, Maxine has worked with some big corporate houses as a proofreader.

She rose to fame after she married well-known Canadian–American entertainment personality and cannabis rights activist Tommy Chong in Canada in 1960. According to sources, the couple’s first daughter, Rae Dawn Chong, was born through Tommy’s extramarital affair with an underage lady named Gail Toulson. Later, Tommy fought a custody battle for the child and won the case, following which he and Maxine raised the child. Rae, who was born on February 28, 1961, was unaware of her biological mother till she turned 12 years old. Rae, however, did not let the controversy surrounding her birth and parental custody affect her and has always credited Tommy and Maxine for raising her and her younger sister, Robbi, in a wonderful way. Rae has followed in the footsteps of her father into acting and is known for her performances in films such as ‘Quest for Fire,’ ‘Time Runner,’ ‘Commando,’ ‘The Color Purple,’ and ‘Beat Street.’ Maxine’s second daughter with Tommy and her only biological child, Robbi Lynn Chong, was born on May 28, 1965. Robbi is an actor and former model.

Maxine and Tommy parted ways in 1970. Sources hint that Tommy’s infidelity was the reason behind the divorce. After the divorce, Maxine has reportedly remained single and prefers to keep her private life away from the limelight. Tommy married American comedian, actor, and producer Shelby Fiddis in Los Angeles in 1975. He has three biological children with Shelby, sons Paris and Gilbran and daughter Precious. He also has an adopted son named Marcus Chong.

Although some sources state Maxine was born on September 23, there is no concrete information available on her exact birth date. Not much is known about her parents, siblings, early life, or education, except the fact that she is of black Canadian and Cherokee descent. Some sources mention that she holds both Canadian and American citizenships. She has a grandson named Morgan, through Rae.
