Josh Duhamel Biography

Josh Duhamel was born Joshua David Duhamel on November 14, 1972, in Minot, North Dakota, United States.

His father Larry Duhamel is a salesman who helps people with advertisements. His mother Bonny L. Kemper is a retired school teacher, working as an executive director for Downtown Business & Profession Association in Minot.

He has three younger sisters: Mckenzee, Ashlee, and Kassidy.

His father divorced his mother when he was in fourth grade. He and his sisters continued to stay with their mother, though he remained attached to his father.

He had a passion for sports during his school and college days. He became a quarterback for the Minot State University team but soon realized that he was not good enough to be a professional football player.

He chose to become a dentist and accordingly attended Minot State University and chose biology as his major subject. He dropped out of college just before completing his graduation. He completed his graduation from the university ten years later in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. But he had to give up his dreams of becoming a dentist as his grades were not good enough to join any dental college.

He was a good swimmer and worked as a lifeguard at a local swimming pool during his teens.

Josh Duhamel started his career by working for a construction company when he was 26 years old.

While working in a construction company, he got introduced to the entertainment industry by chance.

In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, California, on the insistence of his girlfriend to start a career in modeling.

In 2005, he wanted to become an entrepreneur and opened a restaurant with his friend in Minto, North Dakota.

Soon, his modeling experience helped him land an acting job when he appeared for an audition. He passed the test and was given the lead role in the film The Picture of Dorian Gray, based on a novel written by Oscar Wilde.

Josh was selected by Executive Producer Steven Spielberg for the role of Captain William Lennox in the sci-fi film Transformers: Dark of the Moon, directed by Michael Bay in 2007. He starred alongside Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf in the blockbuster.

His other films include Life as We Know It (2010) and When in Rome (2010). In the former, he appeared opposite Katherine Heigl.

He also acted in The Romantics alongside Anna Paquin and Katie Holmes. He was then seen in Ramona and Beezus.

In 2011, he appeared in the film New Year’s Eve. Directed by Garry Marshall, the film also starred actors like Robert De Niro, Halle Berry, Hilary Swank, and Michelle Pfeiffer.

He also starred opposite Julianne Hough in the film Safe Haven. Directed by Lasse Hallstrom and released in 2013, the film is based on a very popular novel written by Nicholas Sparks.

Duhamel also appeared in a film titled Scenic Route. Released in 2013, the film is about the story of two friends who get stranded in the middle of a desert.

His next appearance was in the film You’re Not You in 2014. Directed by George C. Wolfe, the film saw Duhamel appear alongside Hilary Swank and Emmy Rossum.

In 2015, he appeared in films like Lost in the Sun and Bravetown.

He appeared alongside stars like Hugh Jackman, Richard Gere, Emma Stone, Kate Winslet, and Halle Berry in the film Movie 43, which was directed by Patrik Forsberg and Peter Farrelly.

In 2016, he starred in Misconduct and the biographical film Spaceman.

In 2017, he reprised his role as William Lennox in Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth installment of the Transformers film series.

In 2018, he was cast to play Jack Spier in Love, Simon. The following year, he was seen in Capsized: Blood in the Water and The Buddy Games.

In 2020, he was seen playing James O'Connor in Vicky Wight's romance film The Lost Husband in which he was paired opposite Leslie Bibb. The movie was based on the novel of the same name by Katherine Center. That same year, he also portrayed Lukas Reed in the family sci-fi comedy film Think Like a Dog, written and directed by Gil Junger. The film scored a 70% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In 2021, he voiced Harvey Dent / Two-Face in Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One, and Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two. He also appeared in the 2021 adult animated zombie horror film Night of the Animated Dead where he gave voice to Harry Cooper.

He next played the role of Gilbert Galvan Jr/Robert Whiteman in the 2022 Canadian biographical crime film Bandit directed by Allan Ungar. The film garnered positive reviews from critics upon release with Duhamel’s performance receiving special praise. The same year, he also appeared in the Sam Macaroni-directed action crime thriller film Blackout where he portrayed Cain.

In 2023, he starred as Tom Fowler in the American romantic action comedy film Shotgun Wedding directed by Jason Moore. The film was released on Amazon Prime Video and received a mixed response from critics.

Josh Duhamel is also famous for his role as Danny McCoy in the crime television series Las Vegas.

He also voiced a character in the animation series Fanboy & Chum Chum. Produced by Nickelodeon, the series won an Emmy Award.

His voice can also be heard in the animation series Jake and the Never Land Pirates.

He also starred as Leo du Pres in various seasons of the series All My Children, which was produced by ABC. To continue with this series, he turned down the role of Dusty Donovan in As the World Turns.

He was seen in the series Battle Creek where he played the role of Milt Chamberlain. Directed by David Shore and Vince Gilligan and produced by CBS, the series ran for a very short duration.

In February 2016, he was seen alongside James Franco in a television mini-series titled 11.22.63.

In 2018, he landed the recurring role of Detective Greg Kading in Unsolved. He made guest appearances in shows like LA to Vegas and Veronica Mars in 2019.

In February 2019, it was confirmed that Duhamel would play Sheldon Sampson, leader of a superhero team, in a superhero web television series titled Jupiter's Legacy.

In 2021, he came to play Sheldon Sampson / The Utopian in Jupiter's Legacy. The series ran for 8 episodes and was canceled after one season. The same year, he became a part of the CGI anime television series Blade Runner: Black Lotus. He voiced Marlowe and remained on the show until it went off-air in 2022.

He starred as Joel Schwartz in the 2022 television miniseries, The Thing About Pam. The series received a mixed response from critics. In the same year, he also played the role of Colin Cole in the second season of the sports comedy-drama television series, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.

Josh Duhamel won the International Modeling and Talent Association Award under the Male Model of the Year category in 1997.

He won three consecutive Daytime Emmy nominations for his role in the series All My Children. He won the Outstanding Supporting Actor award in 2003.

In 2004, he was named among the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World by an American magazine.

In 2012, he was inducted into the Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame.

Josh Duhamel announced in January 2004 that he was engaged to his long-time girlfriend Kristy Pierce. Unfortunately, the engagement didn’t last long.

He got engaged to singer Stacy Ann Ferguson, popularly known as Fergie, in December 2007. He got married to her on January 10, 2009, at a very private marriage ceremony held at Church Estate Vineyards in Malibu, California. His marriage with Fergie went through a bad patch in 2009 when a stripper accused him of cheating on Fergie.

They have a son named Axl Jack Duhamel, who was born in August 2013. The couple announced their separation in September 2017 and their divorce was finalized in November 2019.

In 2018, Josh Duhamel began a relationship with actress Eiza Gonzalez, but this relationship was short-lived.

In 2019, he began dating American model and former Miss World America Audra Mari. They got married in 2022.

Josh Duhamel is famous for his muscular physique, deep resonant voice, and towering height of 6’3.

He enjoys playing football, basketball, and golf. He also goes skiing whenever possible.

His Male Model of the Year win in 1997 came after beating Ashton Kutcher in a competition organized by the International Modeling and Talent Association.
