Josh Duhamel is an American actor and former fashion model. He is best known for playing Danny McCoy in the American comedy-drama television series Las Vegas. A football player for his university team, Duhamel wanted to be a professional sportsman but became a movie and television star instead. He also spent time studying biology to become a dentist and tried his hand at entrepreneurship as well. He acquired a bachelor’s degree in biology to achieve his dream of becoming a dentist. But he could not get admission to study dentistry as his grades were not good enough to land him a place in any college. He did various odd jobs, such as joining a construction company, to earn a living. He was noticed by a talent scout who encouraged him to try his hand at a modeling career. He got his breakthrough when he landed an acting role in a television series while he was working as a model. Subsequently, he was cast to play roles in movies. In no time, he became very popular among television and movie audiences. He has French, Canadian, German, Norwegian, English, and Irish ancestry.

Childhood & Early Life

Josh Duhamel was born Joshua David Duhamel on November 14, 1972, in Minot, North Dakota, United States.

His father Larry Duhamel is a salesman who helps people with advertisements. His mother Bonny L. Kemper is a retired school teacher, working as an executive director for Downtown Business & Profession Association in Minot.

He has three younger sisters: Mckenzee, Ashlee, and Kassidy.

His father divorced his mother when he was in fourth grade. He and his sisters continued to stay with their mother, though he remained attached to his father.

He had a passion for sports during his school and college days. He became a quarterback for the Minot State University team but soon realized that he was not good enough to be a professional football player.

He chose to become a dentist and accordingly attended Minot State University and chose biology as his major subject. He dropped out of college just before completing his graduation. He completed his graduation from the university ten years later in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. But he had to give up his dreams of becoming a dentist as his grades were not good enough to join any dental college.

He was a good swimmer and worked as a lifeguard at a local swimming pool during his teens.

Career

Josh Duhamel started his career by working for a construction company when he was 26 years old.

While working in a construction company, he got introduced to the entertainment industry by chance.

In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, California, on the insistence of his girlfriend to start a career in modeling.

In 2005, he wanted to become an entrepreneur and opened a restaurant with his friend in Minto, North Dakota.

Soon, his modeling experience helped him land an acting job when he appeared for an audition. He passed the test and was given the lead role in the film The Picture of Dorian Gray, based on a novel written by Oscar Wilde.

Josh was selected by Executive Producer Steven Spielberg for the role of Captain William Lennox in the sci-fi film Transformers: Dark of the Moon, directed by Michael Bay in 2007. He starred alongside Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf in the blockbuster.

His other films include Life as We Know It (2010) and When in Rome (2010). In the former, he appeared opposite Katherine Heigl.

He also acted in The Romantics alongside Anna Paquin and Katie Holmes. He was then seen in Ramona and Beezus.

In 2011, he appeared in the film New Year’s Eve. Directed by Garry Marshall, the film also starred actors like Robert De Niro, Halle Berry, Hilary Swank, and Michelle Pfeiffer.
