The Meteoric Rise to Stardom
Ever since a 17-year-old Wayne Rooney proposed her back in October 2003, Coleen Rooney has been under the media radar. However, her journey from the teenage fiancée of the England football star to a fashion icon and a celebrity in her own right is an interesting one. Coleen, who worked in a clothes store on Saturdays while she was in school, was not much of a fashionista during her childhood years. Even in her teenage days, media reports often pointed out the drabness of her fashion choices. However, within four years under media spotlight, she developed her own fashion style, often mixing designer creations with cagey high-street buys, and went on to grace the covers of magazines like ‘Vogue’ and ‘Marie Claire’. She also bagged an impressive deal for an advertising campaign for George at Asda's clothing range.
In May 2006, she was approached by the makers of ITV's ‘Tonight With Trevor McDonald’ to interview people about children's hospices. That year, she released her bestseller exercise DVD ‘Coleen McLoughlin's Brand New Body Workout’ and in 2007, at the age of 20, she published the lifestyle handbook, ‘Coleen: Welcome to My World’. Later in 2008, she started hosting her own ITV series called ‘Coleen's Real Women’, in which she, “the nation's favorite girl next door”, searched for natural, beautiful women to lead advertising campaigns in place of professional models.
Marriage to Rooney
The first time when Coleen Rooney met Wayne Rooney at the age of 12, the chain of her bike had come off and the teenage boy had offered help to fix it. He later asked her for a date, following which they gradually grew closer. At the age of 17, soon after he debuted for England, Wayne Rooney proposed to her on a garage forecourt in October 2003.
On June 12, 2008, amidst incessant downpour, they got married in a lavish wedding ceremony in Portofino, Italy. They sold the rights to cover the event to Britain's ‘OK!’ magazine for a massive £2.5 million. The couple subsequently became known as ‘Wayleen’ and moved into a new £1.3m mansion in Formby. She has given birth to three boys ¬¬— Kai Wayne, Klay Anthony and Kit Joseph — and is expecting her fourth child with her husband. She currently lives with her family in their £4 million Neo-Georgian mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire.
Controversies & Scandals
On September 1, 2017, Wayne Rooney was stopped by the police while he was driving office worker, Laura Simpson, home in her car after spending time with her in a local bar. He was arrested for drunken driving, after which Simpson came out on television with details about how he wanted to get intimate with her. He had been accused of infidelity a few times earlier, even though this time it became a media sensation as Coleen Rooney began going out in public without her wedding ring. According to media reports, Wayne has not made enough efforts to win her back, which is why she might consider living separately after the birth of their fourth child.
