The Meteoric Rise to Stardom
Calum, Michael and Luke attended the same school. Since they were passionate about music and played the guitar, they often used to hangout, creating cover versions of famous songs. In 2011, they met Ashton, who was a drummer. With Ashton on board their band was complete. Luke Hemmings created a YouTube account, together the band began uploading cover videos. Chris Brown’s ‘Next to You’ became their most popular cover. It was during this feat that the ‘One Direction’ star, Louis Tomlinson tweeted that he was a fan of their band and that people should start following the young boys. This brought them global recognition, and soon Sony ‘ATV Music Publishing’ signed them on. The Australian band went on to perform at a ‘One Direction Tour’ in 2013. By 2014, they released their first single ‘She Looks So Perfect’, with Calum writing the lyrics for them. The song topped the music charts in Australia, New Zealand and Sweden. Their self-titled album came out the same year, and it became a huge hit and won the band an award from UK-based ‘Kerrang’, a rock magazine. The band organized its own tour in 2015, and were overwhelmed by the response they received from fans.

Beyond Fame
Calum is the backbone of the band, but when he isn’t shooting or recording he loves playing football. He has quite a few tattoos on his body, the most special of them all is the “MMXII” tattoo that he has on the side of his chest, a commendation of the year their band took off. He takes inspiration from the 90’s bands such as ‘Boys like Girls’, ‘Green Day’ and ‘All Time Low’. His favorite food is Hawaiian Pizza and chips (without salt or vinegar). If he had to choose to live by one dessert it would be chocolate mint ice-cream. Calum prefers animated films; his favorite movie is ‘Monsters Inc.’ He also has a huge crush on celebrity artist Katy Perry.

Behind The Curtains
Calum was born in Sydney to Joy and David Hood. His mother is from New Zealand, therefore he is half Kiwi. He is often mistaken as Chinese/ Asian, however he has no ancestral heritage of the same. Calum has a sister named Mali Koa Hood. She is a vocalist and was a contestant on ‘The Voice’ in Australia. She made it to the ‘battle round’ but wasn’t selected to move onto the ‘knockout round’. As a student, Calum was bright. He attended Norwest Christian College, and took keen interest in sports, especially football. However, when his music career took off, he declined a national football tournament and also dropped out of school so he could render more time to his band. Calum says that he possesses a soft corner for intelligent girls with brown hair. He was rumoured to be romantically involved with Lucy Kaufmann, Samantha Alaimo and Caitlin Davis in the past. Currently he has been spotted with drummer, Nia Lovelis from the ‘Hey Violet’ band. The two haven’t confirmed their relationship, but have been spending enormous amount of time together.
