Tauheed Epps, better known by his professional name 2 Chainz, is a popular American rapper and hip hop artist. A native of Georgia, he began his musical career by forming the hip hop duo Playaz Circle, along with a high school friend. Their first album, ‘Supply & Demand’, was an average success. Epps later released ‘Based on a T.R.U. Story’, his debut studio album. Debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200, it became a tremendous success. It sold 147,000 copies within its first week itself! Ever since the success of this album, there has been no looking back for him and he rose to become one of the finest rappers in the US. He has been nominated for six Grammy awards so far, out of which he has won one, for his song ‘No Problem’. He kindled controversy in 2013, after he was arrested on board in a departing flight at the Los Angeles International Airport as his bag contained marijuana and promethazine. However, his brushes with the law haven’t affected his popularity much. His fourth studio album ‘Pretty Girls Like Trap Music’ was released in June 2017, followed by 'So Help Me God.' His seventh album 'Dope Don't Sell Itself,' was released in 2021.

Childhood & Early Life
Tauheed Epps was born on 12 September 1977, in College Park, Georgia, in the United States. He had a difficult childhood; he was mostly raised by his mother alone as his father was in and out of prison several times.
He went to North Clayton High School, where he also used to play basketball. Despite being a good student, he also dealt in drugs as a teenager. At the age of fifteen, he was arrested for drug possession. He attended the Alabama State University, and later, transferred to the Virginia State University.

Career
Tauheed Epps formed the hip hop duo Playaz Circle with a high school friend and started performing songs. The duo then became friends with the well-known rapper Ludacris and also performed with him.
’Supply & Demand,’ the debut album by the duo, was released in 2007. It performed well, and debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200. It sold more than 26,000 copies within the first week. However, on the second week, it dropped down to number 79 on the Billboard 200.
Epps, who had by now adopted the stage name “2 Chainz,” announced his debut studio album in March 2012. Two months later, he released the album’s lead single ‘No Lie’, which featured the well-known Canadian rapper Drake. Debuting at number 46 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song was a success commercially and sold 1.4 million copies digitally.
The same year, in August, 2 Chainz’s album ‘Based on a T.R.U. story’ was released. The album, which included guest appearances from popular rappers such as Drake, Lil Wayne and Kanye West, peaked at the first position on the US Billboard 200.
His second album ‘B.O.A.T.S. II’ saw its release in September 2013. Peaking at third position on the US Billboard 200, the album was a huge success, like his first one. It sold 63,000 copies within its first week.
ColleGrove, his third studio album, which was released in March 2016, was also a major success. It debuted at fourth position on the US Billboard 200.
His latest album ‘Pretty Girls Like Trap Music’, was released in June 2017. The album, which included guest appearances from stars like Drake, Pharrell Williams, and Travis Scott, was received positively by critics.

Awards & Achievements
2 Chainz has been nominated for six Grammy Awards so far, out of which he has won one for his 2016 hit song ‘No Problem’ under the category ‘Best Rap Performance’.
He has also been nominated for numerous BET Hip Hop awards, out of which he has won five including Rookie of the Year in 2012.
His song ‘Mercy’ won him the Soul Train Award in 2012 for ‘Best Hip Hop Song of the Year’.
Personal Life

2 Chainz married Kesha Ward in 2013. The couple has three children, Heaven, Harmony, and Halo.

Despite having a successful career, he is also notorious for his brushes with the law. He has been arrested multiple times for drug possession.
